Default iON Dance Dance Revolution metal dance pad

Someone local has a iON metal DDR pad for sale. My wife loves DDR and currently has one of those 1" thick foam DDR pads.

Has anyone used one of these metal pads? Are they any good? Are they noisy? We live in an apartment - would this be super noisy for the neighbours?

Here is the pad that's for sale:

I've never used one but I've read some reviews and the general opinion is that they're horrible. The bar is flimsy and breaks easily plus the pad sensors suck, so you'll get a lot of missteps. The panels tend to dent easily too.

If you're looking for a cheap, decent hard pad, look at the TX4000 or 6000. If you want to spend a little extra and get something more reliable, get a Cobalt Flux or BlueShark GXG. You can get used Flux's for under $200 now and they'll last 100 x's longer than any other other pad.

I would second the Cobalt Flux unless you can build your own arcade replica.

Okay, thanks guys. I'm really glad I posted this thread.

I don't know if I'll actually hunt down something better. I only asked about this one because someone happened to have it locally. My wife's been using a decent foam pad for awhile that's been holding up well and seems accurate. At least I guess - how would I know though?

Yeah, most foam pads are pretty decent. They'll usually hold up fine as long as you aren't playing 9-10 footer songs on them regularly.

Before I got a Flux, I used a RedOctane Ignition 3.0 foam pad that worked great for me. I had to do the plywood sheet mod though because I play a carpeted floor.
