Default Defective Xbox Disks? (MGS2S and Crazy Taxi 3)

Few weeks ago, picked up Crazy Taxi 3 at PlayNTrade. It comes up as No Disk on my Xbox, but reads fine on my 360. If M$ would provide compatibility support, I wouldn't have a problem. The disk is a bit scratched, but more toward the outer edges. I'm still within the 30 day return policy.

I came home tonight with Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance, which is actually in good condition, as I expect from the Gamestop I got it from. However, this one will read in NOTHING. In the Xbox, No Disk. In the 360, doesn't detect a disk. In my laptop, it ejects and tells me to insert a disk if I try to open it from My Computer. I even reinstalled my Xbox dashboard, thinking it was a corrupted driver or something, but no luck.

I can't make it to either place within the next week, as I'm going out of town. PlayNTrade has an awesome 30 day return policy against defects, but Gamestop has only 7. Is there anything else I should try before returning them, or is this definitely a case of (odd) defects? I've never had a defective game before, so I'm pretty shocked.

Good point, personally I'd try them out on someone else's xbox to see if the problems were happening on both

Considering it reads on the 360...gee, what do you think?

Might be time to get that xbox DVD drive replaced.

Take a look at the tray and then look online to match it to the known DVD drive type.

Follow this course of action. Sounds like an odd story, but the Xbox is the likely culprit.

Thing is, these two games are the only ones that don't work. I tried about 10 other games, and even a DVD with no problems.

Crazy Taxi was scratched before I got it, so the guy actually DID put it through their resurfacer. Sadly, I don't think it worked right.

I'm pretty convinced that MGS2S is a bad disk, because it should read in SOMETHING.

If the Xbox is indeed failing, why only these two games?

I think the Patriots have modified the genetic code of your MGS2S disk.

Now they have you. Your only hope is to return it within 7 days.

    Good luck, Snake.

I managed to infiltrate my close-to-the-house Gamestop and they swapped the disk. Boots up fine. Must have been a surface scratch, or something.

I think that Crazy Taxi is just too scratched for my poor old Xbox's drive to read. I'll make the trip to PnT when I get back in town next week.

Now that I know that that disk was bad, I'd like to know if this is a common thing or just a fluke.

I seem to recall some issue with MGS2 for the Xbox, beyond that of just the fact that it isnt a great port, it might be a DVD issue. been too long though

I've seen drives start to die only when they can't read a few discs.

But it looks like you might have not really had an issue to begin with outside of disc condition.
