    Battlefield: Bad Company just came out for the PS3 and Xbox 360. That's about all I can think of.

    I believe that Star Wars Battlefront 3 is being developed by Free Radical (Timesplitters) for Lucasarts.

    One is a 1st person shooter set in modern times, while the other is a 3rd person shooter set in the SW universe. Not seeing a connection besides having the word "battle" in their titles.

    Frontlines: Fuel of War is the closest thing out now. Classes of different soldiers with specific weapons and gadgets taking control of command points on huge maps with tons of vehicles. It's pretty deep and supports 50 players per map. It has a good feel, looks nice and has a decent (but short) campaign.

    Battlefield 2: Modern Combat is similar and cheaper, but was just a prettied up version of the original Xbox game. Frontlines is much better.

    Bad Company doesn't have a gametype like Battlefront, there is only a Goldrush mode when teams play offense/defense going after crates of gold. A conquest mode is supposed to be coming in a future update. It is pretty good, and the destructible environments are great.

    Both:

    * are class-based (soldier, sniper, engineer, etc.)
    * feature vehicular and on-foot combat
    * are objective-oriented

    Can't wait.

    Warhawk is very close in comparison and Bad Company of course.

    Heh. I was having a hard time following that logic myself.

    Wow, that's fantastic news. Star Wars Battlefront was one of my favorite last gen titles.

    There's also domination mode inside Call of Duty 4 that has a somewhat similar playstyle.

    Battlefront has 1st and 3rd person modes.

    I thought that was just another LOTR game and bypassed the article. That's really cool.

    Earth Defense Force 2017 seems close enough. 3rd person shooting, action-packed, fighting against hundreds or thousands per level, 170+ weapons...

    Most LOTR games are quite good...don't play 'The Hobbit' though...
