Default What Happened to 99 Cent and Free Listing Days???

Is it just me or has it been a long ass time since we've had either a free or 99 cent listing day? They use to have them once a month but the last one I remember having was earlier this year. I know ebay changed alot of their policies recently but I hope this wasn't one of them. I have alot of high dollar items I want to list and I was waiting for these listing discounts. Has anyone heard any news about this recently??

    Once a month? Really?

I've been selling on eBay for three years or so, and I've only seen them about six times in that time period.

The free listing days don't appear as often but the 99 cent listing days use to come out atleast every other month. But for some weird ass reason they stopped it

The "weird-ass" reason you're looking for is the rule changes that took effect starting in February. Ever since then, the sales have been awful, and for the most part, for Powersellers only. They still have sales at about the same ratio, but it's always garbage like "Powersellers get Gallery Plus upgrade for only $.20!"

I think the days of free listings/gallery/subtitle are over.

I figured as much and thats why I made mention to ebays changing policies in my original post. But I had no idea that most sales cater to the powersellers now. That sucks. So I guess people that want to list high dollar items are shit out of luck for the forseable future

If you sell enough you get a paypal discount and an ebay fees discount. I am sure the biggest powersellers get even beeter deals then what is listed on ebay.com.

I think it has to do with resources. It costs less and runs smoother to have 10 power sellers making you x amount of profit then it does to have 100 small time sellers making the same profit.

Back in the good ol days when stores were cheap and listing items in there was only 0.02c many hobbists/small time store owners would load up thier stores and use up ebay resources. At the same time since the stores worked so well for oddball stuff, in many cases there was no need to even use the auction feature.

Ebay has since then been trying to exterminate such sellers, or at least make they pay through the nose for it. I finally had enough and closed my ebay store last year, which they were probably fine with.

    *checks archive for eBay 2008*

May 23 to June 1: 15% off Final Value Fees.
    Requirements: Free shipping.

May 7 to May 14: Listing fees capped at 0.50c.

    March 31: 0.01c listing fees.
Requirements: DSR = 4.5 or more, starting price = 0.99c or less.

    February 13: 0.20c listing fees.

    January 16: 0.20c listing fees.

Compared to eBay UK, eBay USA has less frequent promotional listing days and more requirements. eBay AUS is similar to eBay USA in terms of frequency and requirements.

The good times of eBay are OVER.

As far as I'm concerned, ebay peaked in 2002. The good times are long, long gone.

Well said. And the fact they are still able to get listing fees on items that don't sell still amazes me. Sellers should be running for the hills

This is normally ten cents, so this is hardly a sale. I sell plenty to the UK without using that feature, so I don't use it, unless I'm selling soccer jerseys.

But the sale email I got stated that all items listed this way for $39 and up would be capped at a 25 cent listing fee. But after I listed this was it kept telling me my listing fee would be $2.00 so I canceled the listing. So either ebay lied or they need to make this sale work correctly.

No, you're reading it wrong. The sale had nothing to do with ebay insertion fees. There's a relatively new option on page two of the selling form where, for $.10, you can click a checkbox and have your item appear on the ebay.co.uk site on top of the regular ebay.com site. The sale drops the price down a nickel to $.05.

What was once a free standard feature (appearance of your item on both UK and US eBay sites i.e international listing), you are now being charged for the privilege of using it.

Also, there's a 5 pence listing fee promotion (pretty common) on eBay UK in the next few days, but since all media-related items attract a standard 10 pence listing fee, this is hardly a promotion.

They just had a promotion where you could list five items for free. It would still charge you, but then credit your account. I'm really hoping it works, because it seemed all messed up to me. I listed about 30 things, and when I was on the 15th or so item it started giving me errors saying that the insertion fee was free, but wait, nope it's not, our bad, wait, yes it is, nope it's not... oi. They've actually been running a ton of promotions lately, but that's the only one for sellers.

I didn't see that one. Was that for new sellers, or sellers who haven't sold in over a year?

No, I sell on an almost weekly basis. I'm not a Power Seller either. I got an email about it and I sold it featured on the front page.
