I hate to sound so cliched, but y'know, can you imagine if Contra came to newer consoles and the main characters had long hair, frilly coats, and fair skin? Why isn't Trevor (oh god, let's not even think about "Ralph") Belmont MANLY anymore?
The guys they draw now don't look like they've held anything but a wine glass.
My apologies for the stereotypes, though I don't see these guys as whipping anything. I don't mean to offend the hundreds of aristocratic lion tamers out there reading this.
I'm excited for OoE (If I may coin that acronym)...Female protagonist, thought IGA didn't like those? Didn't he dismiss Sonia's place in the timeline and all that?
The one screenshot on wiki suggests a totally NEW BOSS SPRITE, thank god. I don't want to see the old ones anymore, even though I do have to say I don't mind fighting some of the regulars. That was another advantage to the 3D games - you could see old bosses and characters in 3D, like Dullahan.

NES, SFC, SNES, NDS, PS2, GCN, PC, PS2
and hopefully more acronyms to come
Yup. Look at the art now compared to Super Castlevania IV. Actually, I have the same issue with a lot of game art these days. Remember back in the NES days? Art styles like double dragon ruled the box art! Sigh....
Still, Castlevania has managed to keep on track with the gameplay. I didn't like the n64 castlevanias, thats why I don't own them. I do like the Castlevanias on ps2. Lament of innocence is one of my favorite games, if not a little short.

Ah Castlevania... lover, temptress. She is a beautiful beast. A rainbow run through a sawmill and sprinkled on vampire kittens.
OK, enough alliteration. Who has a favorite Castlevania boss battle? Mine has got to be Frankenstein's Monster in Castlevania 3. It holds nostalgic horror for me.
Ha, I'd have to break it down by game.
Castlevania 1- Death and Dr. Frankenstein's monster
Castlevania III- Death, Doppleganger, and the Ghost/3 Gauntlet creature-fest
Castlevania IV- The Ghost Dancers, The 2 headed dragon stuck to a wall, Death had the coolest entrance ever, The Sir Grakul Armor, and Gaibon
Castlevania bloodlines- Its all about facing Elizabeth Bartley on the hardest difficulty.
SOTN- all of them.
Dracula X- Death, and the creature gauntlet.

Castlevania: I'm actually going with the giant bat. Castlevania was one of the first games I ever played on NES, and I remember how impressed I was with it, especially compared to the C64 games I'd been playing.
Castlevania III: Death fer sure
Symphony of the Night: Either Orlock or Galamoth. Special mention goes to the Castlevania III zombies.
Rondo of Blood: Death again. God he's a bitch.
I loved the stage 3 boss battle in the original Castlevania!
I really enjoyed the whole final boss battle of Simon's Quest as well...
For Rondo and Rondo's PSP remake, I'd have to say each one was very enjoyable... same with SOTN...
Has any of the Castlevania characters had a cameo in another game? Besides Konami-man in SOTN?

My Gaming Collection (Now at Google Drive!)
wai wai world 1 and 2 had simon belmont as a playable charecter, in the first one you had to rescue simon from castlevania in one of the levels (then you can play as him)
dreamfighter for the lamecube you can play as simon belmont (and more importantly you can have him fight optimus prime)

For more obscurity, look up "Battle Tryst" a semi-rare 3D0 M2 hardware arcade game where Simon and Richter are apparently playable (with odd designs)

I've read about people getting the M2 boards working with Supergun harnesses before, so it must at least be compatible with some tweaks.
Wow, I'll have to check Y!J for that.

Since we were talking about boss battles I do gotta give props for the first part of the final fight in Portrait of Ruin (fighting Death and Dracula at the same time). Not that is was a particularly well done fight or even that difficult but because the concept fit so well in context with the game.
Here's the Castlevania games I own.
NES (all cart only)
Castlevania
Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse
Genesis
Castlevania Bloodlines (cart only)
SNES
Super Castlevania IV (cart only)
PlayStation
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (complete, GH)
Game Boy (both cart only)
The Castlevania Adventure
Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge
GBA
Castlevania (Classic NES Series) (complete)
Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (cart only)
Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance (cart only)
Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (cart only)
DS
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (complete, non-Konami's Best)
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin (complete)

We've talked on artwork before, but what is your favorite castlevania art? US/JP? Why?
Also, whats your least favorite?
I really like the old school artwork. US Super Castlevania IV is my favorite. It shows simon as gritty, dirty, mean, all that stuff. There is a lot of action going on in it.
I don't like a lot of the new art, especially harmony on GBA. It makes the characters look like a bunch of pretty boys
I dunno, I like the tough guy artwork a lot better.

More to add to the collection. Anyone know how to pronounce Noroi no Fuuin?
