    Default Mobile (phone) game recommendations?

I recently got a new cell phone, having been the last person on Earth using an N-Gage QD as their primary phone. Although I never really looked into downloading (non-N-Gage) mobile games with my N-Gage, my new phone supports 3G, and I'm pleasantly surprised at how zippy the downloads are. Between that and the lack of retail games like the N-Gage had, I'm looking to crack into the world of mobile gaming for the first time.

What are some games worth checking out? I'm mainly looking for suggestions of original games, as I'm fully aware of the greatness of Ms. Pac-Man and Tetris. Edit: Also welcome are "ports" where it's actually a different game with the same name, or ports from PC, Palm OS, arcade exclusive games, games from an obscure platform, etc. Recommendations for applications are welcome too.

My new phone, unfortunately, has neither Symbian OS nor mobile Linux (nor is it "N-Gage 2" compatible), and I suspect that will be somewhat limiting. But fire away.

Does it use Palm OS? There's a few nice original games for that platform worth checking out.

I was still using a first generation N gage until I went to a Treo in Feburary.

What is your new type of phone? Some carriers or companies carry games for their phones for free.

Doom RPG is excellent. I'm pretty sure that's about it, actually.

The phone is a RAZR2 V9. Its OS is whatever Motorola puts on their phones (and not Linux, unlike the RAZR2 V8). It does support Java.

Metal Gear Solid Mobile and Orcs & Elves II are both supposed to be really good. But I think MGSM is exclusive to Verizon Wireless, for a few months

But avoid Guitar Hero Mobile like the plague - It plays like shit on my Blackberry 8830.

This isn't a game, but if you've got a roomy data plan, you NEED Opera Mini. I'm posting from it right now.

Miami Nights or New York Nights 2 are great games and addicting as hell. I would also suggest the Phoenix Wright mobile game, though it is very short. Another good one is Block Breaker Deluxe 2

The included browser is Opera-based; would I still benefit from downloading Opera Mini?

Nevermind, I just downloaded Opera Mini anyway. It's definitely different from the included browser, although I'm not sure which I prefer yet.

One annoying thing, using Opera Mini, whenever I open a page (or whenever I do anything in an application that connects to the internet), the phone asks me, "use data network?" The responses available don't include a "yes, stop asking". I can't figure out how to turn it off. Little help?

I second this. It's so addictive and fun. It's also fun on your second play-through, as you will be overpowered and crushing enemies left and right.

There isn't a way to turn it off, or at least I don't think there is. The Palm OS version of Opera Mini acts the same way. I think it was included as a stopgap measure to insure that nobody accidentally turns on the network by accident and waste data/bandwidth costs without realizing it.

You'll have to download one of the "certified" versions (Verisign, Thawte, etc.) to make the phone see it as "trusted". You might have to go to mini.opera.com on your PC and download it that way to find them.

Well here's the games I've downloaded so far:

    Diner Dash
Works rather well with cell phone controls. It seems pretty complete, with a full career mode and an endless mode. I haven't played the DS version, though. The core gameplay is very fun, reminiscent of Tapper (a personal favorite of mine). My only complaint is that later levels in the career mode are too difficult, with minimum scores that require too much attention to scoring combos.

    XIII
Meh. The gameplay is rather basic, and it's too brief. I beat this game in one sitting. There aren't even multiple difficulty levels. The storyline is supposed to be the same as the console game, but there's almost zero plot. It's okay while it lasts, but this game is utterly mediocre and lacking in substance. Not worth the $5 I paid for it. I can't believe IGN gave this game a 9 and said it was actually better than the console version. That's the last time I consult IGN Wireless reviews.

    XIII: Covert Identity
A big improvement on the first XIII. Levels are longer, level design is more substantive, and it actually has some plot. The core gameplay is still on the basic side, but better than the first. It also has multiple difficulty levels and appears to have extras of some sort. I haven't beat it yet but I can already tell it's longer, too. So far I'm happy with this game.
