    Default Shipping question for paypal.

I'm selling a item on ebay, a police scanner which is worth 500 bucks.I went to only accept money orders & ebay forced me to accept paypal & get stuck with paying the final fees. What would be a way to prevent from getting screwed by someone doing a chargeback. Would shipping ups with insurance be better?

You'll want to use insurance and signature confirmation. That will protect you from paypal chargebacks and in case of loss or damage. You can get those services from any of the major shipping options.

One thing you can do (someone correct me if I'm wrong) is offer a discount if someone uses a check/MO. I believe the policy is that you can't charge extra or a fee if they use Paypal, but a discount is still allowed. It is something I've considered, though being able to have a transaction completed, with feedback left on both sides, in 10 days (for a 7-day auction) sure is nice. I've been surprised at how quickly things make it through the post sometimes.
