New PSP releases few & far between?

I was at a Gamestop recently and leafed through the "upcoming releases" book. Plenty of stuff for the major consoles, two pages of DS releases, but not even half a page for the PSP.

I asked the girl working there about it... she confirmed that they didn't have many new games announced. She then pondered aloud as to why since she thought the PSP was doing so well in Japan.

Any thoughts?

My guess: Developers are so busy falling over each other to make the next hit game for the Wii or DS that PSP development is getting left in the dust.

Besides Final Fantasy Tactics and Crisis Core, I haven't bought a new PSP game in over a year.

Add Sony's lack of focus and their stupid tendency to promote crap like UMD Movies or a GPS or a third-rate Camera or fracking Skype(!?!) rather than push GAMES for their PORTABLE GAME system!! Another problem might be that the PSP was really looking like an also-ran for a while there, and developers may need some time to catch up with it again now that it's sold enough hardware to prove there's a market there to tap... Add indecipherably obtuse marketing decisions - like releasing a God of War PSP system pack TWO MONTHS after everybody's already played through the game at least twice - and it's a wonder there are any releases at all for the machine... I think it's a testament to the system's quality that it's selling as well as it is, here or abroad, because Sony sure as hell can't take any of the credit for its success!!

Whether you're a fan of the classic or not, it fits the moniker of "recent quality PSP release".

Also, it's summer. Traditional down-time for game releases.

Also also, two pages of DS games? I'd bet my pants that 1 1/2 pages were pet simulators with titles ending in the letter "z".

I think Sony is trying hard to recoup their PS3 lost. All the attention are now focus on PS3. PSP on another hand gets nothing.

There aren't enough developers, or dollars, to throw at all of the consoles, so the PSP gets left out. The profit margin on PSP is pretty low due to all the piracy.

People don't really buy games for the PSP. They pirate the ever-loving shit out of them instead.

I've noticed this too. However there is alot of junk on DS right now. The real question is: What is the junk-to-quality game ratio on PSP releases we DO get? I could do without all the garbage taking up space on the DS wall at my local retailers.

btw, "petz" games I expect to see clogging up the DS wall in the next 12 months:

Interesting point about piracy. The PSP is the easiest console to pirate ATM isn't it? Development for the PC seems to be getting trashed for the same reason. PC versions of games are released last to maximize sales...

I bet it is piracy...PSP development seems to be akin to PS1/PS2 development; I doubt they are hard pressed to develop for the PSP.

it is probably piracy, but the psp isnt THAT easy to mod. ok well maybe it is lol. the wii is also extremely easy. the DS is effortless as long as you throw 50$ for an R4+memory card.
