    Default Metal Slug 7

Did anyone else pick this up yet?

I just go the import version today, and it's not too bad, though it's a little on the short side. The action is all on the top screen, while the bottom screen has a map of the stage you're on that you can scroll through with the stylus, but IMO, it's pretty worthless.

The graphics are surprisingly good, I was a little worried that the trademark animation might be butchered, and from what I can tell it hasn't been butchered much at all. The characters, enemies and bosses look nice and sharp on the DS screen, though the backgrounds look a little washed out in comparison. Also, the majority of the stages are rather dull looking. Not much color or variety to them. Don't expect too many special effects though, the game doesn't scale out the screen or anything like that.

You can pick from 6 different characters like in MS6, and they all have different weapons properties.

All in all, it's MS, but it's somehow missing the charm of the earlier games. Nonetheless, it's still tons of fun. I wouldn't recommend spending the extra cash importing it, may as well just wait for the domestic release. I only got it because it's been eons since I've imported anything, and I'm a little worried the domestic release will have all the blood "censored" or changed into sweat.

I've been thinking about picking it up, but I still haven't put enough quality time into 6 to justify blowing cash on 7.

Glad to hear that touchscreen control wasn't just shoehorned into the gameplay (like motion controls in the Wii MSA collection). Doubt I'll ever use the touchscreen map, but it's nice that they threw it in there as an optional tool to use. I was honestly worried that they'd try to make an aborted lovechild of Metal Slug and Abuse.

So it is definitely better than six? I hope so, since SNK actually made this one...

IMO, I would say so. I didnt' care much for 6 for some reason. 7 feels more "true to its roots" in a way. If you're a fan of the series, I would recommend picking it up, it's pretty impressive considering it's a DS/handheld game. A PSP port would have been nice though.

You've pretty much described every Slug from 4 on.

    The man has a point.

I'm going to pick it up. I figure every copy of Metal Slug 7 sold translates to a frame of animation for King of Fighters XII.

My only question is import it, or wait till November when they release it stateside.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

I'll wait for the domestic release.
Currently catching up on PSN, WiiWare, Wii U E-Shop and Xbox Live Arcade exclusives I missed.
