    Ok, so technical question time:

The Wii version is based upon the Resi4 engine. How many zombies can the Wii put on screen at once in an enclosed environment using a modified version of this game engine?

I know that there are lots of factors in this equation, so it's not an easy straight forward answer. But surely someone with good technical knowledge of the hardware could give an estimate of what the Wii can do. Are we talking 50, 100 ,200?

Before we start worrying about how many zombies the Wii can't display, let's concentrate on how many it could display.

I would like to remind everyone that the game isn't finished. Yes, there weren't many zombies in the video, but why does that mean there won't be more later? I refuse to pass judgment until at least a nearly final build is shown.

While I agree with your sentiment, this is the kind of thing that usually doesn't change with more development time. If the issue was "it looks a little rough around the edges", that would be more likely to change.

And is it really using the RE4 engine? That's lame if true.

    *gasp!*

If beating zomies with a frying pan isn't fun then I don't want to know what is.

    That should read
"Xbox 360 -- many many zombies spread throughout entire mall"
"Wii -- group of zombies crowded around the player"

Those two screens show exactly what I'm afraid the Wii port will bring.

Exactly what I'm thinking. Having a small number of zombies in a large area is counter to the game's original design in my mind. I started getting much better at the game when I realized that the zombies were more obstacles than enemies, hence their gross numbers EVERYWHERE. If they're making the Wii port such that you can only see a small number of them at a time, that's pretty awful. I would often take a few seconds, look around and plan the best route in a particular room given the pattern of zombies between me and the target. You were never meant to wipe them all out. I would love to see comparison shots of the underground tunnels where you have to either drive through or make very efficient use of the zombie ride to get through without making yourself into food given you shouldn't be able to take a step down there without seeing at least 20 in your face plus countless more shuffling around. I was able to get the 10,000 zombie achievement just by driving back and forth in those tunnels for a little while.

One thing I would love to see, though, is if they fixed the horribly small text size.

Check out the new trailer for the Wii version over on Joystiq or Capcom's website.

I thought it was rather good. Odd, but very good. I assume it's running on Wii hardware?

Physics look gimped up... two blasts to take out like 12 zombies like that?

Looks better than I thought it would but still... it's a cash grab. Pass.

I still think it's idiotic to have any type of move in a video game remotely similar to beating off, especially to clear a room of zombies. The only thing that motion should clear is a room of girls.

    Umm where was the gameplay?

Sure was a different video, but that's all it was, a video.

I will wait for judgement until I play it myself and play the US version.

Maintenance Tunnel video. And yes, this is an officially released video demo.

That video makes me less excited for the game. So you get to run over a bunch of zombies that are just standing there, and get interrupted with annoying hint boxes in the process? And wow, bad draw distance.

I just watched IGN's video review of Dead Rising for the Wii:

    http://wii.ign.com/dor/objects/14267...ii_review.html

I don't get it. How come Capcom's Resident Evil 4 looks awesome on both the GameCube and the Wii, but Capcom's Dead Rising port looks like an old PlayStation 2 game? Maybe my memory is a bit hazy, but the graphics remind me of State of Emergency...which came out in 2002!

Capcom's Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles looks way better than this too, and it was released more than a year ago. What happened?

Capcom clearly didn't use one of its A teams to work on this port...not even one of its B teams. Actually, I think one of the summer interns there programmed this as a homework assignment and it somehow ended up being released.

Seriously though, there are a decent amount of zombies onscreen, but what's the point? Why bother filling the screen with enemies if they don't move? And when they do, it's only one or two of them. Shouldn't they all be constantly attacking the player? Instead, they just stand there like idiots...at least from what I saw in IGN's video review.

I know the Wii isn't as powerful as the Xbox 360, but it's still capable of texture effects, real time shadows, reflections, and other graphical wizardry. The Conduit will have far better graphics and physics than this junk. Heck, even The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - a Wii LAUNCH game/direct port of a Gamecube game - has better visuals than this. Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Call of Duty: World at War, Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, Bully, and all of the Wii Lego games look better, too.

Ghost Squad was released over a year ago for $30 and yes, even THAT has better graphics and physics.

In the right hands, the Wii version of Dead Rising could've come close to replicating the experience of the Xbox 360 version. Capcom's previous Wii games look good, so why did it drop the ball with this one??

I have never played Dead Rising. All I remember of it was a game that was over-advertised and thusly over-hyped.

Too bad, what a missed opportunity. I think with more effort, the Wii could've handled a decent port of Dead Rising. I mean, it doesn't exactly push the 360 to its limits. But instead, they shoehorned it onto an engine that wasn't designed for it. If they were going to do such a "quick and dirty" port, they could've made it a launch game. There's no reason for stuff like this to come out anymore.

All that complaining said, I'll still buy it, when the price drops. But only because I'm a Capcom whore.

Reminds me of powerful explosions in Goldeneye (Silo and Bunker), but then again, everything reminds me of Goldeneye.

And also, as Swiss Tony might say, a bit like making love to a beautiful woman.

See! This is what I'm talking about. This looks soo bleh, and it DEFINETLY could look better. Or at least give us more zombies, somethings got to give. I just played the demo for 360, I didn't really like it but welcome any new games to the Wii. That game isn't a graphical masterpiece on the 360, so why the muddy N64 texture look?
I might just buy this to at least support new efforts on the Wii.

Ah, Capcom. Love your games, but your ports are...well, just awful.
