    Default Sega Saturn import question

Is there a all in one solution for a cart that allows the play of imports and saving games (So as to avoid the internal battery memory)? Been doing a little research and haven't found a clear answer yet.

Doesn't need to have any RAM capabilities, I'm not interested in the Saturn's 2d fighters. I just want to be able to save my games, and easily play Chase H.Q., Power Drift, and Konami Antique's MSX Collection.

    Thanks

If I am not mistaken you need to save to the saturn no matter what then transfer the data to a cart. i could be wrong but am pretty sure thats the only way.

Damn, haven't been here in days!

You cannot directly save to the cart unless the game supports it AND it is an official SEGA cart. You have to save to internal memory and then transfer the save if those two conditions are not met.

All in one solution otherwise would be the 4-in-1 previously mentioned: http://www.ncsxshop.com/cgi-bin/shop/EMS-ARP.html

Copied games require a mod chip.

    Hope that helps

Actually there are third party memory carts that allow you to save directly to the cart. I have one from Interact called the Memory Card Plus, which also happens to act as an region key cart as well.

The thing is, I bought two of these Memory Card Plus carts and only one of them had the region key function. I think they both allowed saving directly to the cart, though.

The one that defeated region protection looked like this one:

The other one looked like this:

Of course, I don't know for certain that those two cartridge styles consistently had the same features, so no guarantees on either of those auctions, which aren't mine.

If you don't care about being able to save directly to the cart, getting a Gameshark or other 4-in-1 may be the better option since you can know for sure that it'll act as a region key.

I think the problem is that if a memory cart allows direct saving, the console will only recognize it as a memory cart, meaning any other features get ignored and won't function. That's why most (if not all) multi-function carts don't allow direct save.
