    Default Help ID a board.

I got this board from a guy who told me it was out of a galaga cab. I did some looking around and it is similar, but I don't think it is one. There are 2 boards connected by a ribbon cable one being bigger than the other. There are no identifying words on the boards. Also no midway or namco marks. Some of the bigger chips in the center are marked NEC. Here is a photo:

There are a bunch of chips in the center that are labeled with a red circle and g1-g7 on them. There are also 3 more on the back board.

    Any help is appreciated!!

Could be a different revision board...could be a boot.

I would say with no Midway or Namco markings, a bootleg is more likely. Also, I've never seen a double-decker Galaga, not to say they don't exist, but....

According to some images found on Arcadeshop.com, this is a boot.

This pictures look almost like it except the board is turned on the other side:

Thanks, that does look like it. Assuming it is a boot, will it work with a original Galaga cab?? I just bough a cab with just the board missing, but has the rest of the stuff in it. I was hoping to just plug this board in and have a working cab.

Assuming the board is in working order, yes it will work.

Well I have a galaga cocktail and I took a look at it's board and it looks just like the one I got in this thread. So it looks as if that is a bootleg too. The funny thing is it plays exactly like the original. I played many Galaga machines over the years and I could not tell the difference. Does this de-value my machine?? Are the boots worth less than the originals?? I would assume so, but you never know.

I would say one of the toughest things about a bootleg is reapiring it. When it breaks, without it being original, it can be tough to find service for it. However, being that there are others in existence, seeing as there are pictures around, and you have 2 yourself, it's possible that this board is serviceable, and more common than I thought. As far as value goes, unless you are an absolute purist, 100% original collector, I wouldn't worry about it. If it looks like a Galaga, sounds like a Galaga, and plays like a Galaga in a Galaga machine, then to pretty much everyone out there, guess what? It's a Galaga. If you ever sold the machine to a guy for his home, you can get close to full price, if not the whole thing.
