Odd problem while replacing snes cart batteries

Hi, i've been replacing dead batteries on some of my snes games and came across an odd situation... On Zelda, Final Fantasy VI (III) and Chrono Trigger, after the battery is replaced and 3 (max) different savegames are created in order to test the backup memory, the one on the first slot simply disappears. Exactly the same on the three carts. Until now (a day later), saves on slot 2 e 3 still remain on memory. All copied or created in slot 1 still disappear. Any ideas?
I'm completely in the dark here...

hummm...I don't know. Do the batteries still output 3V? They might be new in the sense that they haven't been taken out of the package until you did but could be batteries from many years ago.

about 15 minutes. Is that important?

Depends on how much experience the person has. I remember taking 20 minutes the first time I replaced the battery.

Anyway, to the OP, use a multimeter and verify the voltage on the batteries. They mus be close to the original value, or 3V. If you notice it is much lower, the batteries are dead.

Also, you can use a battery holder. Makes awesome replacement and you can switch batteries on the fly.

Did they come from Radio Shack by any chance? Put in the part number on their website and I'm sure you'll see several complaints abut the batteries being near dead right from the package. I'm not sure if that's your problem or not but I thought everyone might like to know. Other places might have that problem as well.

No they arent. I bought the batteries from a electronics store near my house.

No, I mean that it might be that the batteries have been sitting on a warehouse for many years before being sent to the store, not that you bought them years ago.

Do the batteries have a 4 digit code printed on them? The first pair is the year of production and the second pair is the week of said year on which the battery was produced. I've seen batteries from 1998 being sold nowadays.
