Default PC Games Supporting Head Tracking/VR Headsets

    which games support this?

I have been reading about cyberpunk and stuff online, and it got me in that kinda mood, plus I have always wanted a good vr headset that supports head tracking, but what games support this?

I know that Flight Simulator X does, but what else?

    Are you talking about TrackIR?

I've used it with just about every PC racing and flight simulator of the past 5 years successfully. As I recall, they have a nice list on their site of which titles support which version of TrackIR, and tons of videos of it in action.

    Funny!

If the stereoscopic 3D feature of that headset were supported, I'd consider playing computer games.

Yeah, VR headsets are awesome, but there is no point in getting one if it is like like the eyepiece equivalent of earphones. I don't need to hide watching porn, but getting fully emersed in a game would be awesome, and I don't want to play just 1 of 2 games (fligh sim x and that helocopter game they advertise on the website for the trackIR.

The best tech out right now for 3D is the high freq. 120+ hz LCD with the glasses with LED's that turn black and clear really fast synched to the LCD. Old tech but LCD screens are finally getting fast enough. Works great with UT3. Need an Nvidia card.

Been around awhile. they used to use it with high refresh CRTs (got to be over 120hz) but not many games supported it and could push out 120 fps.

Cheap as well ... except for the fast LCD.

woefully outdated wiki page. The glasses now feel and look like 50's beat poet shades.

Would LCD shutter glasses interfere with an LCD monitor? It seems like if you tilt your head the image might reverse. Those glasses are cool and all but not really immersive(unless you have a big screen with head tracking). The one I tried made it look like the monitor was a box with a real 3D looking game going on inside it...not like I was there.

We had a VR lab in college that used LCD glasses and a huge screen. It worked really well for the person with head tracking. Everyone else saw things scewed since it was meant for his perspective.

The problem with VR stuff now is that most of the affordable gaming stuff was made in the mid 90's when the technology wasn't quite up to it. Now that it is, the VR craze is pretty much over...for the mean time anyways.

I'd imagine that using VR on a FPS shooter would be nausea inducing at the least for most people. o_O

Unless it was something like this...but with 3D LCD glasses of course.

That's an omnidirectional treadmill. It moves under your feet no matter which direction you walk in.

Anyways, I'd think that as long as the user input was set up well and the head tracking was fast and accurate enough that a FPS would work really well with a VR headset. It is first person after all.

TrackIR is awesome. Playing Armed Assault with it is a fucking life changing experience. Watch the videos on Dslyecxi's site for an example of the awesomeness. I really do need to sink some time into IL-2... I feel like such a sissy for never putting any real time into it

For VR sim stuff, I love the work that companies like Lasershot and TruGolf have done. LaserShot uses the VBS2 engine (similar to what's used in Armed Assault) while TruGolf is from the peeps that once worked on the Links series of golf games (and we all know that Links has always been better than the PGA Tour series). I'd kill to get a Force Dynamics 401 for my racing games, too.

Naa ... the glasses just go black for one eye while the monitor displays one image for that the glasses then switch while the monitor displays an image for the other eye. The video card is rendering 2 cameras at 60fps per eye. It's synced so if you look around you don't notice anything different except everything is a little darker. You could stand upside down and the effect would work - sit on your side it would still work.

Problem is most HDTV's and lcd monitors might say 120hz but that has become sort of a catch phrase for selling. Very few can actually do it.

Also, 120hz on a CRT and an LCD are different. On an LCD the refresh is more about how quickly a pixel can go from light to dark. Remember when LCD monitors weren't for gamers because of the smear effect? that is what a slow refresh is like on an LCD. On a CRT there is no smear but an annoying flicker.

The reason I'm wondering about it is becasue LCD's are polarized and shutter glasses work through polarization. Like the LCD in a digital watch, current in a segment causes the crystals polarization to change 90 degrees making the segment go dark. Shutter glasses have each lens working like segment in the watch...apply current and it goes black. But becasue it's polarized means that it might work weird on an LCD screen but only if you tilt your head. I saw it happening on some of the 3D rides at Universal studios...although it could have just been me thinking to try something like that. Either way it's still a pretty cool effect.

I saw the video with the Flashpoint demonstration. It looked pretty cool. With a good head tracking system like that and a nice headset would make for a really nice VR setup. I've always wanted to do something like that but never had the money to blow.
