    Default Galaga/Pac-Man/Ms. Pac-Man 25th anniversary

We found a Namco Galaga/Pac-Man/Ms. Pac-Man 25th anniversary cab in a videostore (I've seen the Galaga/Ms. Pac-Man combo before, but never the 3-in-1 version). The franchisee set the cab in free play and unlimited continues (which is surprising, considering how there was no such thing as continues originally).

Question: Are the 25th anniversary cabs the real deal (using PCB boards) or is it emulation (Galaga-on-a-chip)?

If memory serves, (and don't quote me on this), I believe that the anniversary cabinet is an actual PCB, however, the JAMMA edge connector is wider than the board itself. So, it kind of is Galaga-on-a-chip (and Pac and Ms.Pac too), but it could be considered a "board" as well. I guess it would be your opinion?

What made me question whether it's a real-deal PCB or an emulation is that 3 years ago, when I went to San Francisco for CGE 2k5, a bunch of us (including Punkoffgirl and Queen of Felines) went out on the piers and went to an arcade there. I played Ms. Pac-Man on a Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga 25th anniversary cab and the game speed was wrong.

I didn't sense any weirdness in terms of speed last night, but considering how easy it is to emulate 25-year-old hardware nowadays, I wondered whether that was the route taken by Namco.

Incidentally, I beat my personal record (that I held on Namco Museum PS2) in a single game on Galaga: 70,000 points (my previous high score was 55,000)...

Here are some pics from yesterday. As I mentioned above, the cab was set on free play with unlimited continues.

Note: DSC = De St-Cyr, LJA = Lady Jaye. The top 2 scores were yesterday, and the following 2 scores were from Friday.

I haven't seen that particular cabinet yet, but it is legit. I don't know what kind of board is in that thing, but considering the advances in modern technology, I would assume at this point, it very well may be all on a chip or three, those games really don't need a lot of space on a board these days. You could always find out whose machine it is, and ask if they could open it up for you so you could look......nah, that'd never happen.
