    The most common and very important check, is the power supply.

    When the old model Genesis is supplied with too little current or voltage, the YM2612 hums loudly, and the VDP gets starved and outputs a horrible image (though the console will play games, it may crash along the lines).

    I will say though, a failed capacitor could also cause the stated problems, it's not the first thing to check though. Power Supply, never underestimate it.

    And to be brute, your customers don't want their machines to be your mistakes.

    Sorry, could not help myself, was at ATARI AGE FORUMS and guess what name started a thread? Yes, RickHarrisMaine!!!!!
    I know we already discovered he was real but reading that name over there and the only thing that popped into my head was this thread over here !

    that would be a very easy fix. it's a popped fuse on the controller port board. bridge it with wire and it will work again (its a little resistor looking thingy on the board that's labeled as F1) i can fix it for you if you pay postage on it. it'd be no problem cause ill be doing more soldering soon when i chip these other PS1s. also, unlike the guy that started this thread i do have feedback here and can be trusted or if you like i can even swap you a working board for your dead one.

    HELP! Saturn won't read game disc

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Everything was working, then yesterday my Saturn starts "reading disc format", then goes to "start application" button. Today "reading disc format" and that's it. NO MORE GAMES?!?!?
    Is there a fix for the laser or is it something else? maybe the disc isn't spinning fast enough? spin motor going? The disc is tight on the spindle. Any insight on my problem? I'll buy another console, IF I HAVE TO, but would rather repair, IF I CAN. As it stands right now, I have nothing to lose by trying it myself.
    ================================================== ==============

    If you can, please give advice as to if and how to repair this problem.
    For the cost of shipping the unit to the UK and back, it is cheaper to purchase another on eBay.
    CAN YOU HELP???
    Stupidity got us into this mess......why can't it get us out?

    Default Sega Saturn Laser

    Hmmm you could replace the laser though you may want to change the POT setting on the laser, if I recall they are plastic white screws by the laser motor. Test the Saturn with the top off and something holding the CD in place (a lil tape) and to the lid sensor (a lil tape) and then turn the white screws until you get the game to read properly.
