Well...at least it gives you something to do while watching proteins fold, as it "replaces" the main Folding@Home interface.
And the globe is certainly pretty in it's real-time global weather satellite goodness.

It's not an awesome feature or anything, but if you're going to be doing some Folding anyway it at least gives you something to look at and interact with. On an unrelated note: Man did I butcher that title or what? It's all fixed, now (that's what happens when you create a thread at 3:30 AM, I suppose).
