Default Should I hang onto my old game machines?

I have an old PS1 that I dont really need, as my last-revision PS2 runs all of my PS1 games fine and I can't say I really want to play games with bad load times. Should I hold onto it in the hope it will be worth something one day or not?

Same for my GBA, which I never use.

Although I would normally say not to get rid of any consoles, the PS1 is fairly easy and cheap to purchase again if you ever have the urge to do so.

I still would not sell, but if you don't use it anymore, and use the PS2 to play PS1 games, you could opt to sell it.

But remember, if something should occure to the PS2 and you want to play PS1 games...

If you have no interest in console collecting and you're satisfied with the backward compatibility features of your newer machines, then by all means get rid of the older units. Just make sure they go to a good home.

Mate, it'll probably never be worth anything significant, and since you no longer into them, I say sell it. If you don't want to go through the hassle of online and shipping, which I can't blame ya, best to unload it on Craigslist, see if you can't walk away with a $20 bill or two.

By all means, ditch the Playstation, but the GBA might be a special case. What else do you use to play GBA games? Do you play 8-bit Game Boy games at all?

I like to consider myself a purist. If I want to play a PS1 game, I'm going to play it on my PS1. I don't use PS1 controllers on a PS2 either, I gotta have a Dual Shock 2.

Personally I have a hard time getting rid of anything, but if you have no interest of hanging on to it to just have for nostalgia, or other personal reason. Let it hit to ebay.

Ditto. I have my ps1 right next to my ps2. I have my xbox right next to my 360.

Yeah I'd want to play PS1 games on a ps1. At least if you sell attaining another one will be cheap and easy

If you like console collecting alot, dont sell any of them. The only times I have sold a system, I have regretted it.

I'd say dump it, since PS2 has the chip to hardware convert. As long as you need the room and don't need it. PS1s are a dime a dozen. They're not going anywhere soon.

    Okey.

What's a "decent" price to sell one at then? About $20?

I enjoy playing on a PS1 but whatever you enjoy is up to you. Newer consoles eat buttholes.

This should go into What's it Worth, but at any rate I think a complete Playstation with controller and memory card would be worth $15-$20.

Agreed. I don't own a PlayStation - my PS2 gets the job done just fine. (I wouldn't turn down a cheap PS One with an LCD screen, though.)

As for the GBA, I still use my SP pretty often - there are some GBA games I prefer to play on that rather than on my DS, and it's my main portable for GB and GBC games. It's also my only option for e-reader games. I did sell the original GBA that it replaced, though (I kind of wish I had kept it, but it went to a good home and I got some decent cash for it).

Good luck getting that. Like someone else said earlier Playstation's are a dime a dozen. I can find them at pretty much every flea market, Goodwill and daily Craigs list posting. They've been around for over a decade and will not be seeing a price increase or rarity issue anytime soon. While people ask for $20 and up--those generally go unsold. A used Playstation(or PSOne) has about the same amount of value as a used Gamecube--$10.

For the OP, try to sell it on Craigs List. List it as $15 or best offer. That way people will be interested knowing they may not have to pay the full $15.

Well I was going to trade it to my friend in exchange for "two lunches", so yeah i guess $10 was on the mark.

Did the later model PS1's lessen the obscene load times or were they just as bad?

I'd say go ahead and sell them both. As long as none of your PS1 games are incompatible with the PS2, then there's no reason to keep your PS1. The only reason I keep mine is because it's mod chipped (and I'm afraid of doing the same to my PS2). As for the GBA, definitely get rid of it, since there's much better ways to play GBA games, whether it be on a DS, SP or Micro. I still don't know why I still have mine.
