Default First Arcade Game have some questions!

Ok, so I recently purchased a four player Simpsons Arcade machine for 200 bucks.. I think it was homemade.. Didn't have a chance to open it up and take a look.. It's basically two arcade cabs connected.. Two separate top marquees and two monitors.. The two sides face left and right... It's basically like having two arcade cabinets... Anyway I just wanted to know about the whole Jamma board thing... I've been reading how you can switch out other Jamma boards and play different games.. Is it pretty easy to do? Where can you get some cheaper Jamma boards? Anyone have any games they would recommend? Thanks, Scott

I wonder if this machine indeed use to be an X-Men machine and was converted to a Simpsons one. That's what I originally thought when I read his description of it of how he thinks it's homemade. He probably assumed it to be when it was actually converted from an X-Men one. It's just my thoughts and a possibility.

The X-Men cabinet I saw (Treasure Island Fun Center, Seminole FL) had a monitor positioned normally on the right side, with a mirror positioned at the very edge of the screen, reflecting another monitor that was sunken down in front of the left-hand controls. The game would probably have to support two-monitor output, or else you're going to get one heck of a funny picture. Have you tried playing it yet?

My spidey sense tells me that this might be a converted Nintendo Vs. cabinet. You know, the double upright one.

http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=8895 (Third Cabinet on the right side)

    Thanks, klov!

I know the cocktails were converted to Ninja Turtles often, so I don't find it too hard to believe that an upright became a Simpsons.

WHATEVER it is, it's DEFINITELY homemade. Look at the title. That's not the trademark "The Simpsons" logo.

the vs. is what I imagined when I first read your post. Bring it back, put Nintendo Tennis in there and play the hell out of it! woo!

edit: does need some love though.

Hate this cab with a passion. Have one taking over my addition right now. If you are looking to restore it, let me know, I have mad parts I can sell you.

nope, thats just a converted nintendo vs cabinet.

Also the simpsons logo is correct, they just had to cut it down to fit in the marquee area.

yes, you can swap out the boards easily with other jamma games or other 4 player games. You will be limited on jamma games because of the number of buttons in the cabinet. Simpsons only uses 2 buttons.

but other 4 player games would be Turtles, Turtles in Time, Sunset Riders, Bucky O Hare, Captain America, and X-men (x-men uses 3 buttons though, one is for your mutant power)

In all honesty the picture doesn't do it justice.. It's really not that bad looking... And everything works great... Both monitors are bright and full of color... All buttons and joysticks work.. Coin doors work.. So I was pretty happy with it... You guys think 200 was a good deal?

$200 for any non-standard arcade game is great, from what I've seen. Everyone in my local paper wants at least $500 for a beat up Galaga or something I've never heard of.

For a double-unit, I think you got a good deal, regardless of condition.

Can you mount more than one Jamma board in there?

That would be great to be able to have more than one game (one on each screen...of course you'd probably have to install some external volume knobs).

You could have a ton of options if you wanted to go with a multi-cade board or something where you wouldn't have to crowd the control panel ... if you wanted to put a spinner, trackball and light-gun on one side, and leave the joysticks on the other.

He could, but it would involve rewiring the whole thing, and getting another Jamma harness and power supply.

As it is now, there is likely one switcher and one Jamma Harness with the video output hooked to two monitors.

I prefer these things as a straight up VS system myself. The Vs. games are a hoot. They're the NES games in a cab that are actually worth owning. (I loving hate Playchoice...they're the biggest wastes of space ever).

As for your deal, I think the cabinet looks pretty rough myself...A few too many dings, scratches and gouges for my taste...but nothing that can't be filled in with various fillers, repainting, etc.

I'd say though, that for 200 its hard to go wrong, considering that The Simpsons is a spendy game, just for the board alone.

Yah, $200 ain't so bad for a not too hacked up Nintendo Vs. cab and a working Simpsons board. I agree with Blur2040, the Vs. system needs to be in there. (And I agree about the Playchoice, but that's another rant.)

Hey sorry to revisit an old thread.. I just had a question for you arcade experts out there.. I was thinking about buying one of these boards: http://www.jammaboards.com/store/106.../prod_243.html and putting it in my arcade cebinet.. But I want to be able to play all the games. So I was wondering if A. Would My setup play this board? B. how hard would it be to install extra buttons so I can play all the games?
