Hey, does anyone know if the Gamecube component cables work with the SNES? I want to hook my SNES to my 50" plasma.
No, the end of the plug that connects to the console is completely different.
On older gamecubes there was a digital out pout that just put out a 480p signal that was used in conjuction with the standard av cord in which you'd use for the audio.
From what i understand the best picture you can get natively out of a snes is S-vid which looks great (its what i have my set up with). I don't know if they still carry the multi system video cords with the standard nintendo av but gamestop is a good cheap option for that cord.
I'm not sure if the TV would recognize the signal through component cables even if it did work. Too bad Anthony1 left the forums, He would know more about this...
The Gamecube Component Video cable will NOT work on the SNES regardless. The cable relies on DIGITAL video signals for operation and the cable has a DAC built in. The SNES has no digital video signals plus the SNES came out long before there was Component Video.
But the SNES does output RGB Analog. Check to see if your plasma set has a DB-15 plug normally used for VGA. If it does then it has a good chance of accepting the 15Khz RGB that the SNES outputs (I know that most projection units accept 15Khz so I think that some plasma units may accept them as well).
If not then consider an RGB-to-Component adapter for use with the plasma.
Another thing to consider is to get a Monster Cable made Gamecube S-Video cable (it has the same plug used by the SNES and the N64). I found that the Monster Cable S-Video cable for the PS2 made for a better picture than with regular S-Video cables (due to better wiring and better ground). This may make the S-Video signal from the SNES almost RGB quality on the plasma and is probably the least expensive option and the easiest to implement.
