Default Vigilante 8 on XBLA is HERE! And, it's .... DECENT!

    http://kotaku.com/5060832/vigilante-...ler-gets-funky

Sweet baby Jesus in a commemorative motorized baby Jesus tossing device!

I'm counting the days (Nov 5th) till the remake of Vigilante 8 hits XBLA ... and by the looks of the trailer it's got anything and everything that a hardcore fan of the series could possibly want.

I especially like the fact that they didn't try to completely re-imagine the game ... it looks like a nice, high res port of the original + online multiplayer.

I couldn't really ask for anything more.

I hope that IsoPod Labs can take up the mantle that Luxoflux laid down so many years ago and that this plays as great as it looks!!!

Any other fans of V8 looking forward to this one?

This looks great! I did enjoy the series back in the day.

This looks great. I used to love this game. The sequel was great too, but I really enjoyed the first one. Any idea as to the cost?

Did anyone else try the n64 version? I bought it for a few bucks back in the day and absolutely hated it. The graphics were crap, the music was crap, the controller wasn't as good for this type of game. I hated it.

Dammit, I rented Vigilante 8 a long time ago, and I thought it was awesome. Somehow, I never picked it up for real, and... well, I could have had a V8! *smashed on the head with a mace*

Okay, seriously, this is awesome. I intend to get it if the translation to XBLA doesn't botch the game in any way.

I loved the hell out of Vigilante 8: Second Offense on the Dreamcast, even though it was pretty buggy and had sloppy controls. Yet another game I need to hook my 360 to the internet for.

So, who downloaded this? I dl'ed the demo and I thought it looked and played great! It's a mere 800 points, so I don't really have any excuse NOT to get the full game.

I downloaded the demo, and I don't think I'm gonna spend the points on it.

I remember the controls being a little tighter. Also, I remember it being easier to get my car off it's back when it gets flipped over.

I haven't had the time to try this out, but hopefully I will this week.

Still one of my top games of the season.

I'm aware that it only scored average with most crticial outlets, but the original did too and it's still one of my all time favorite games.

The gameplay is actually pretty week. I was hoping for a "Rush 2049" style game play but this one is lacking.

Ooh. 4 player Rush 2049 on the Dreamcast was epic back in the day. My friends and I spent hours playing that one. Hmmm...that game would be great on the 360.

Vigilante 8 was never anything like the Rush 2049 multiplayer mode.

You can't fault the game for not playing like it.

If anything V8 was the closest kin of Twisted Metal.

The deathmatch in Rush 2049 was more like the battle modes in Mario Kart.

    MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMOoooookay,

Downloaded the demo and as the biggest V8 fan I know, here are my thoughts.

Isopod Labs are obviously fans of what Luxoflux did on PS1, Dreamcast and N64. It was good work, and this is what I would call a spirited homage to their masterpiece.

Having mastered every inch of terrain on both V8 1 and 2 on the PS1, their re-imagining of the Oil Fields brought back an immediate sense of nostalgia.

I REALLY like the new way that the advanced weapons system works (holding down the weapon button to power up instead of entering a Mortal Kombat-esque combination on the D-pad) and the graphics were very nice for an XBLA game (I was well aware that this wasn't going to be Burnout Paradise or anything).

While I didn't have a problem with the way that the autos handled when all four wheels were on the ground (V8 was always a "slippery" tire physics animal by nature) I do see the complaints about the gravity physics when your car takes to the air (either via a jump, or an offensive maneuver from an opponent) ... it's almost humorous to watch your auto flip around in the air the way it does.

"Righting" yourself when you wind up on your top seems to be more of a case of don't do anything for a few seconds and you'll get an automatic opportunity to "spring" back onto your wheels than "rock back and forth" on the analog stick.

For what it's worth to me ... the two physics issues mentioned above aren't enough to sway me from making the investment in the full version of the game. I'm too big of a fan of the series to pass on the opportunity to play online ... and they seem to have nailed the "essence" of the original games without messing anything up TOO much.

While it doesn't seem to have vastly improved on the overall, I'm pleased with what I see. I don't think it's going to sell anybody on the series who wasn't already a fan ... but I think calling it a huge disappointment is a bit much (not that anybody called it that ... that's just in case anybody feels inclined to).

Sadly I don't think the game has aged well. I loved the two on the N64 but vehicular combat was perfected with Twisted Metal Black. It's hard to go back now and play this game. Nostalgia alone can't get me to spend the 800 on this, unfortunately.

Oh seriously? I was trying to flip myself over by rocking back and forth. IIRC, this is how you had to do it on the psx version.

    A bit of both.

You could rock yourself over easier on the original versions ... and it could be a bit of wonky design on the new version.

I found that if I let myself sit for a second and didn't try to force a roll over I would flip back over with less work.

For me, vehicular combat games reached their zenith with Roadkill on the PS2/Xbox/GC. I have played that game all the way through around ten times, I loved it so much. Then a few months ago I tried playing Vigilante 8 on the Dreamcast, and it took me a good long while to get used to the controls. I had forgotten how difficult they were. But at the time, Vigilante 8 on the DC was the first real free-roaming vehicle combat game I'd ever played on a game console (I skipped over the Playstation/Saturn/N64 generation, not buying those until years later). If the controls for this new iteration are half as good as in Roadkill, I'll be happy.

I had a bit of issues getting the vehicle to flip back over regardless of what I did.

Also the physics and collision effects are a little off as well.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the game, it just seems like it could be a bit better (Though I could say that about a large amount of games lol)
