    Default Videogamepricecharts.com

Someone recently directed me to this site and I have to say, if it's all it's cracked up to be, I'm pretty impressed. I'm still kind of skeptical that I should ever be able to price some games according to "market value" and actually expect to sell them accordingly.

How do you feel about this site?

The 5 searches I ran all came back pretty accurate. Not bad.

Seems good, but they need to add more games. They didn't include Swordquest: Waterworld for the 2600. Earthworld and Fireworld were there though.

Some of the prices seemed pretty screwy, so I did some reading. It seems they include prices from amazon listings, not just closed sales. Considering some of the overinflated prices I have seen from Amazon sellers, I have to think that might be causing some of the inconsistencies.

That said, this seems like a cool website, but the pricing methodology is going to need some work to prevent individual 'asking price' anomolies at Half.com and Amazon from skewing the results. Especially if they intend to become a resource for game stores (as they seem to want to be).

Tony, a bunch of those have limited sources... but yes, grain of salt indeed. Neat site.

Another vote for the grain of salt. It's a great little site, but it still has a long ways to go.

I did catch this eBay link on the front page though... $50,000 Wow.. It's a unique item but even $10,000 might have been asking too much imo. I can't help but wonder what the insertion fee on that was.

Hey guys. Thanks for the kind words about the site. I'm one of the owners of videogamepricecharts.com and I'm glad you guys like the site for the most part.

I completely agree that the prices need to be "taken with a grain of salt". Some rare games don't have many sources for the data so they are not going to be as accurate. But it is a very good baseline number. For common games, like GTA IV or Super Mario 64 for example, we have hundreds of price points per month so they should be very accurate.

We are working to make all the prices on the site sales based to remove some of these inconsistencies with list prices. For the majority of games the list prices are pretty much the same as the sales price, but some games they are not. We think sales based data would be more accurate and have some ways to track this in the future.

This project is a labor of love for now and does not make enough to pain the bills so it's great to hear feedback from gamers to keep us motivated.

Have you considered incorporating the DP price guide values into the mix? It might help create a stabilizing number to offset the small amount of data you may have on some of the older/rarer games. Just an idea...

But I do like the site, have it bookmarked, and look forward to watching it evolve.

The DP guide has its own problems so that might not be much of a help.

The links I posted were weird mostly because of the new price rather than the used which makes sense, really. It's not always easy to figure out what sealed copies will go for and most of the time it's the used values people will care about anyway.

Anyone have a sealed Chrono Trigger I can buy off of them for 100 and change?

I agree. We briefly considered using the DP prices but they do have some major issues. Plus we want to focus on prices that are updated more frequently. When it is based upon sales sites the prices take into account changes in the market like sequels being released and seasonality. Using the DP prices would only dampen those effects.

The Chrono Trigger prices is not accurate. The problem is people keep on listing "Chrono Trigger keychain" or "T-Shirt" but listing it on ebay as a new game. We are working on some ideas to double check some auctions to make sure they are what they say they are. Hopefully we can add that sooner rather than later.

There was actually a sealed copy of Chrono Trigger for sale on Half.com this morning for $110. Obviously, it didn't last long There was also an eBay auction (#360090897769) for a sealed copy of Chrono Trigger that ended with BIN at $199 a couple months ago.

And probably both reseals. If something is too good to be true then it probably is.

I might be missing something but what is the difference between the free price guide and the $85 a month subscription price guide?
