Default 7-Eleven Sells Video Games.....And Early

I really hate being out of the loop. But apparently I haven't been to a 7-11 in awhile because they are now selling video games and they seem to disregard street dates: http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/...e-games-early/

While 7-11's in Japan have been selling video games for year, this is fairly new here I would suspect. Now that I think about it, the last time I was in a 7-11 was in 2004 to get a limited edition Halo 2 slurpee cup. Small world

The 7-11 near me been selling games for a few months, but all are Madden 09. Bright side is you can have a slurpee and burrito while you waiting in line on release day (or before).

I think they're just doing this for the attention. Look at how many blog postings there have been since they started breaking street dates. I think it's an even trade for them to incur the wrath of the game companies for breaking a few street dates in order to get the word out that they're selling video games now.

A few of the 7-11 stores around here carry video games, usually in a display case at the counter. They started out with Madden '09 on the 360 and PS3 (and they also had Madden '09 Big Gulp cups), and last week, I spotted Fallout 3 and another big-name 360 title I can't recall at the moment.

(On another note, I had an odd dream a few years ago that I was at a 7-11 and spotted Gamecube games in one of the refrigerated cases, so whenever I see games there, I almost always remember that dream.)

Same here. Mine even sells USED DVDS for $9.99, and they are MINT. Only problem is their selection is very small.

The only thing stranger than this would be if Circle K started selling porn.

    There's something amiss...

This is nothing new. They started with Halo 3 and many locations broke street date on that too. Frankly, given that they sell the games for full MSRP, breaking street date is really the only angle they have to make the sale. Also, with most locations individually owned/franchised, I doubt they have much leverage to do anything about this even if they wanted to.

There's exactly one 7-11 in my area which isn't too far from me. Burritos and Slurpees are things I try to avoid these days but I may stop by just for the heck of it to see if mine is offering any games. One question I have is...how are the prices? I'm guessing they would probably be more expensive than most places. 7-11 isn't a place I think of that offers bargains...

haven't even seen a 7 11 in a year or two but i remember a lot of gas stations use to sell games back in the 80s and 90s so it doesn't surprise me. Actually seems like a great thing. Didn't prince drugs use to sell nes games?

They don't have a "games" section if that's what you're hoping for. The ones around here literally get a small box of 5-10 copies of whatever the big game is at the time and keep it behind the counter. The only way you even know something is available is that they do a small handwritten sign. The games are full price plus tax and whatever they don't sell goes back to the distributor within a week or two.

Looks like now 7-11 is going to get even more serious about video games: http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/...es-year-round/

Well, I finally stopped at my local 7-11. Not only did they NOT have any video games, they didn't even have any of the diet soft drinks I like which was my main reason for stopping this time. I left without buying anything and will not return.

Not really. They sold Halo 2 slurpee cups but not the actual game. Halo 2 was that defining game of just how big video game sales could get and AFTER it hit is when the non-video game stores like 7-11 took an interest in gaming.

The only 7-11 near me is in a really bad part of town, so I guess I won't be checking their games selection out.

Unless you have a 7-Eleven that carries games and disregards street dates, or you want to get Fallout 3 at 2am, you're not really missing out on anything here. If your 7-Eleven is anything like the one in my previous post, all they have is three or four of the most popular games out there, and maybe a few Maddens, all at regular price.
