It has been 10 years already since Half Life came out. This pretty much helped valve shoot up in the ranks of fps makers.
I, personally, never played all the way through it, even though now I am tempted since I own it.

i only finally beat it very recently. Little tip for the last boss conventional firepower wont work there is a trick to it. Found that the hard way after wasting all of my good weapons just shooting at him for half an hour . I may be alone on this stance but i like it more than halflife 2

Hahahaha.
I own hl1 and 2 (I got 2 on xbox) and have barely dug into hl, and never touched hl2. One of these days I will, but there are just too many good new games out there that I want to play and beat (not saying hl is bad, but, you know what, I don't have to justify myself, hahaha)
Just beat HL 2 yesterday actually! On the originbal X-box that is. Haven't tried HL 1 yet but it's on my list of games to play. Is it as long as HL 2?
They're pretty comparable I'd say. Its been years since I first beat HL1 and I never timed myself, but I'd say they're roughly equivalent. I took about 15 hours to beat HL2 my first time through.
Today it seems somewhat forgotten in lieu of HL2, but it was the greatest single player FPS experience of its time.
Happy Birthday!
Playing this for the first time right now. I really love this game and the fact that its long is great, can't have too much of a good thing right?
Just picked up the orange box yesterday so I can keep playing after I beat it. I'm on the level "Surface Tension" right now.
I am probably even slower at this game than most because I always have to poke around everywhere to make sure I don't miss something somewhere. But somehow I always still miss something.
Half-Life was my favorite game for a long time. The sense of atmosphere in it great. I didn't care much for the ending (or any of the other world stuff really), but even that didn't ruin the game for me.
I've beat both 1 and 2 twice, but haven't started episode 1 yet. One of these days...
Oh, and crossfire might be the best multiplayer deathmatch map of all time.
Ah, one of the few FPS titles today that I really, really, REALLY like, original and sequels. Hats off to Valve for making this modern classic!

High time I got this so that I can never get around to playing it!
(Until Friday.)

I am going to start playing hl, hopefully, within the next couple of days. I never got around to it because I knew I would get hooked (same reason why I have not played oblivion even though my roommate has it and does not play it)
Lord, I love Half Life. This last time I played through it, the Xen levels sucked harder than I remember them sucking, but everything leading up and that last battle were every bit as excellent as they've ever been. I love that game. Played through Half Life: Source last, so I'll probably do Half Life PS2 next.
I wish it were possible to smooth out the framerate in the PS2 version somehow. Lord, that'd be such an awesome port then.
Half Life had the raddest demo, too. I ought to fire up Uplink tonight just for shits n grins (especially since someone converted it to the Steam HL Mod). Short, but oh-so-sweet.

I still haven't touched my factory sealed copy of Half Life on the PS2. As for Half Life 2, I got bored from it on my Xbox. However, I'm definitely going to go back and finish it someday.

Just want to add to the list of those giving props to Half Life - one of the few games that lived up to, and perhaps even exceeded, the hype that preceded it. I remember being so excited for both Half Life and Sin at the time. Sin ended up being a decent game, but Half Life had me enthralled from beginning until the Xen levels (which were a little bit annoying).
So many FPS's are just a collection of non-descript rooms and hallways, but both Half Life games created PLACES that stuck with you after the game was over. It's been years since I've played through the original, but I can still clearly remember some of the distinctive areas late in the game.
