No, more like $200-$250. Right now would be a great time to sell though.

Inflated like an airbag. If something sold for like $5 in 1998 there's no reason it should ever be able to sell for $500 just ten years later.
Real collectors drive Hondas, Toyotas, Chevys, Fords, etc... not Rolls Royces.
If it was worth $500 it would have never sold for $5. Maybe $50. I have heard of tenfold price increases, but a hundredfold increase is ludicrous. The game is only Rarity 5. Personally I don't see the value in having one game that was worth $5 thirteen years ago now taking up 10% of the monetary value of my entire collection. Personally, spending $20 or more on a game of that era is a rare event for me; my most valuable games are in the $40-$80 range.

This is a completely ridiculous argument as it only applies to your personal collection and is of no relevance whatsoever in a price estimate thread. It's like any other collectible product. It's worth whatever people are willing to pay for it on a consistent basis. Over time, that value can go up or it can go down. Maybe you'll get lucky and find one at a thrift shop or a swap meet for almost nothing. Maybe you never will. It doesn't change the fact that if you find a mint complete copy and list it on Ebay or on a Nintendo collector's site, you will likely be able to get a significant amount of money for it.
Personally, I think there's been some price fixing going on here.
