No, more like $200-$250. Right now would be a great time to sell though.

Yessir, from Thanksgiving until Christmas has always been $$$ for me. This year could possibly be the exception to the rule, but I doubt it. I actually stock up on items to sell during this time (I've got two Wiis, a 360, and a DS Lite all ready to go).

Inflated like an airbag. If something sold for like $5 in 1998 there's no reason it should ever be able to sell for $500 just ten years later.
Real collectors drive Hondas, Toyotas, Chevys, Fords, etc... not Rolls Royces.

    Why not?
Demand for this game is very high, and it is an enjoyable game as well. Is it worth 500? Obviously it is if people are consistently paying that amount for mint copies of Earthbound.

If it was worth $500 it would have never sold for $5. Maybe $50. I have heard of tenfold price increases, but a hundredfold increase is ludicrous. The game is only Rarity 5. Personally I don't see the value in having one game that was worth $5 thirteen years ago now taking up 10% of the monetary value of my entire collection. Personally, spending $20 or more on a game of that era is a rare event for me; my most valuable games are in the $40-$80 range.

I agree completely, but I've found that for some reason people seem to want to defend Earthbound's high price point to the death.

They’re not defending it just stating facts, if your only willing to spend $5 on EB that’s fine just don’t plan on getting a copy anytime soon because there are a hundredfold more people willing to pay the hundredfold price.

This is a completely ridiculous argument as it only applies to your personal collection and is of no relevance whatsoever in a price estimate thread. It's like any other collectible product. It's worth whatever people are willing to pay for it on a consistent basis. Over time, that value can go up or it can go down. Maybe you'll get lucky and find one at a thrift shop or a swap meet for almost nothing. Maybe you never will. It doesn't change the fact that if you find a mint complete copy and list it on Ebay or on a Nintendo collector's site, you will likely be able to get a significant amount of money for it.

Personally, I think there's been some price fixing going on here.
