Default Lupin the 3rd and Starsky & Hutch-or Why I'm an Old Goat

So I was being shown a demo of Bandai's Lupin the 3rd at E3, and I mentioned to the demoer that I was very fond of Cliff Hanger, the '80s laserdisc game that used Lupin the 3rd footage. He hadn't the slightest idea what the hell I was talking about; in fact, he didn't even know what laserdiscs were.

Later the same day, I was being shown a demo of Starsky & Hutch, and the PR flak asked me and a couple other journalists if we knew what it was based on. I thought this was a ridiculous question, until the 22-year-old in front of me admitted that he hadn't the slightest idea who Starsky & Hutch were.

I am officially an old goat.

    Errr....

I'm twenty years old, and familiar with both laserdisc media and (unfortunately) Starsky and Hutch.

I wish you'd been at E3 to make me feel better. Heh.

The Lupin the 3rd thing surprised me, as I would've thought the guy assigned to show the game would've been familiar with the history of the property. The incident made me wonder if Bandai even realizes that Lupin has appeared in a game before.

While I never watched Starsky and Hutch or played the laserdisc games, at least I'm familiar with them. Ask a 22 year old what a malted is sometime

It's not always about age... Sometimes it's experience/exposure and intelligence/memory.

I mean, I don't think I was born yet when the Beatles released "I Saw Her Standing There", but I at least knew that Tiffany's "I Saw Him Standing There" was a remake. It's because, unlike the teenybopper girls who were Tiffany fans, I had experienced Beatles tunes at some point, and remembered that one.

So, though I recognize Lupin as the guy in Cliffhanger, I can't always remember that Cliffhanger is based on Lupin. Funny how memory is sometimes one-way.

Of course, I did watch a bit of Starsky & Hutch in my day...

The worst part is that so few people ever realized that her only hit, I Think We're Alone Now, was also a remake...

Verving away from more talk of Tiffany *shudder*

I'm 21 and not only know what a malted is but enjoy them on quite a few occasions. And I've heard of Starsky and Hutch, and laserdisc. Actually, my Chem teacher in highschool had quite a few laserdisc Chem programs that we watched on occasion. I always wondered if I could get a Space Ace or Dragon's Lair laserdisc and sneak it into school for Chem....

    @maxlords: Once again, I'm twenty.

    *ahem*

A malted, sometimes known by it's full moniker, "malted milkshake", is a delicious ice cream beverage far superior to the type of shakes you find at fast food restaurants these days. It's bascially a milk shake, made with REAL ice cream, NOT soft serve, that includes a malt solution that has the consistency of coarse sand, and is similar in color as well. I'm not sure exactly what this substance contains, but, if you took the centers out of a whole bunch of Whoppers candies (malted milk balls) and crushed them to a fine powder, it would be extremely similar to the soultion.

    So....do I pass?

It's a grain believe it or not. Actually in this case it's a mixture of dried milk, malted barley, and wheat flour. Tasty eh? i've always loved Malts over Milk Shakes.

Malted barley? That puts it about one step away from being an ice cream float made with beer. Wait, forget I said that. Don't try it. :-)

Why not? Have you never had an oatmeal stout float? It's not as bad as you might think.

Seriously, don't worry Zach, you're not an old goat. I've PLAYED Cliff Hanger! I remember when I'd first seen the Castle of Cagliostro (which I may add is my favorite animated movie of all time), I kept asking myself, "Where have I seen this before.".

    LUPIN RULES!

    Sorry , carry on.
