Default Help..Is my Virtual Boy complete?

Went to the Mountain Mission today. Picked up California Games (NES) for $1.50 and thought I had found all I would today. I rummaged through the toys, though, and found a Virtual Boy. I got it for $1.00. It has a controller, eye piece, and power supply, but no stand. I think there is supposed to be some type of rubber around the eyes (maybe?), but it's not there. I plugged it in and turned it on and I can see a red square inside the left eyehole, but nothing on the right. I don't have a game yet to test it, but does this seem like it will play? I've never seen one in person, so I can't be sure what it's supposed to be like. It looks like there may be a cover missing on the back of the controller where the power supply plugs in (when I unplugged the cord the connector pin came out with it). I didn't get anything that plugs in the ext. port (but I don't know of many Nintendo systems that took advantage of that feature). Sorry, no pics (at work). I'd appreciate any help I can get before spending money on games for a system that won't work.

The Virtual Boy should have a stand and rubber around the unit for your face to sit comfortably. Also, there is a battery pack (or AC adapter accessory)that slides on the back of the controller. I haven't turned mine on with out a game in it in a while, but what you described sounds familiar.

You can get Mario Tennis for really cheap. I wouldn't be surprised if the person you bought the system from had a copy.

Yeah, I've got a spare copy, as I'm sure many other people do. No VB should be without Mario Tennis! Pay shipping and maybe some gratuity, and it is yours, Draven.

Virtual Boy games around here are scarce. Looks like I'll be doing my shopping on eBay. One of the guys here at work used to have one and showed me how to adjust it (so now I see a blank red screen through both eye holes). I'm gonna try to pick up a game first chance I get to see if it still works (I heard they were easily damaged if dropped or abused...and this one's pretty rough).

If you can see a picture through both sides, then you should be set. The most frequent problem with Virtual Boys is that one side is dead, no matter how much you try to adjust it.

I think Virtual Boy games are pretty scarce everywhere. :P But, yeah, pick up Mario Tennis; not only should it be the cheapest but it's also one of the most fun games. The 3D in this system is still mind-blowing. The effect is more impressive than even the latest games these days to me. The whole mirror technology and everything is way ahead of its time, too ahead considering its flaws. You may look a little silly playing it, but I hope you enjoy your introduction to the world of Virtual Boy.

I would also suggest Teleroboxer. It is pretty easy to find in both the US and Japanese versions (VB will play them both out of the box) and it is really fun. It is a lot like Punch Out but with robots.

I found this site linked to on a different forum: http://www.vr32.de/

I haven't explored it too much, but it looks to have more information than a normal person would need about the virtual boy.
