Default How many controllers have YOU broken in a fit of self righteous rage?

I've broken two: an NES pad back in the day, and a sixaxis during the TV station level in Call of Duty 4. I admit though that if I were more thorough with venting my dissatisfaction, I'd have a few more to add to the list. Controllers are pretty durable, it turns out.

So: how many controllers have you broken, and why?

I can honestly say Zero. None. Zip.

Have I slammed them down or slammed my fist against them? Yes. Hah I found out if you hit the center of a Dreamcast controller hard enough and there is a VMU in the first slot, you can fire it out a good distance.

    0. I've thrown them down hard on the floor but never broke one.

Years ago my parents would wrap the wire around my PS1 controllers to save space, but over time one of the wires got so worn out it wouldn't work.

I have gotten pretty angry playing games, but my controllers held up pretty well over the years despite banging and throwing.

I have thrown my fair share of controllers but only broke 1 and it was a 360 controller. It seems like I get more angry about games now then I did back in the day. Stupid Halo.

I have thrown a few controllers in anger during my youth… but none had ever broken before. My SNES controller from then had a tab break inside and the cord had come out more. And my Genesis 6 button controller has a piece of plastics rattling inside.

BUT, I had recently thrown my Xbox 360 controller when I was playing Bionic Commando Rearmed. The dpad on that controller is pure garbage.

I grew up with many anger issues as I had social disorder and I took out frustrations in video games controllers when I would play poor.

These days I am a little better at controlling anger and frustrations but the 360 dpad pushed me to a place I had not been in a long time

I can't even count. 2600, NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, PS1, Xbox....I've broken them all. Smashed my first 360 controller a couple weeks ago (a black Elite) playing Call Of Duty 4 online.

I'm not an out of control person either. In fact, the only time I get really mad is when I play games (and tennis...I've broken at least a dozen racquets over the years). Maybe it's because I bottle it up most of the day and it all comes out when I play. I'm always respectful of my friends controllers when I play on their systems though.

None. I usually stand up, punch the couch/bed/something nearby, swear at the TV or sometimes a combination of those things... but I've never been so pissed at a game that I've destroyed a controller. I usually take a break before I get that annoyed.

I don't think I have broken any in anger. The wires breaking after being wrapped to save space, however... That broke a few.

You guys must really wrap those wires tight!
I've broken dozens of controllers and keyboards, but usually it was because they were worn out and wouldn't function properly.
I did tear a dualshock controller in half playing Doom on PS1. Those Ultimate Doom levels are just heinous.

Multiple PS2 controllers...I remember slamming them down and blowing them apart, then gathering up the pieces and assembling them back together. They eventually bit the dust but survived through a few tosses...

I broke an Xbox 360 controller playing Gears of War; I was really good at the game for awhile and then couldn't hit shit all of a sudden and I freaked out and threw it against my bed. Toast. Still suck at Gears of War online...

And a bunch of my controllers have been broken by my friends; not through physical attacks, but just through carelessness. Shit like the LB or B button is stuck into the controller and takes a mammoth amount of effort to press. Sucks.

I haven't broken any. My wife however has broken two PS2 controllers playing the Katamari games with that high speed charge move. She would play it for HOURS. I'd be in another room and "WHACK-WHACK-WHACK-WHACK-WHACK-WHACK-WHACK-WHACK-WHACK!!!! WHACK-WHACK-WHACK-WHACK-WHACK-WHACK-WHACK-WHACK!!!"

She brought me the shattered hulk of my favorite PS2 controller... "It stopped working... I don't know why."

    None, controller cost money, hehehe.

My older brother is notorious for busting 360 controllers though.

None, I really don't get angry when I play games, frustration never goes beyond a small curse or running my fingers through my hair or something. I do notice though that most guys cannot control anger levels while playing games, almost every boyfriend I've had, including my current one, gets pretty pissy if gaming doesn't go his way.

I have broken several thru the years of playing. From NES up to PS2. Once the current gen came out and I saw price tags of $50 for the current wireless controllers I wised up. I cannot afford to break a $50 controller.

On a side note though... I kicked a hole in my closet door once when I was younger playing college footballs national championship on Genesis.

I also threw the disk for Madden 07 for the Wii across the room because the motion sensor wasnt picking up my passes and I was constantly getting sacked.

I think I may have an anger issue...

None. What kind of idiot throws away their hard earned money during a moment of stupidity? There are much better (more cost effective) ways to vent.

I agree, I can't imagine doing this. But a surprising number of people are childish enough to do this, there's always no shortage of people with plenty of stories to tell when this topic comes up once or twice a year at the forums I visit. Provides for entertaining reading, though I can't imagine getting mad at a electronic game enough to ever do it myself.

30 years of gaming, one intentionally broken controller. Thank you, final race of Excitebike 64.

I also bit into a few Atari joysticks. You may have some of my handiwork in your controller collection right now.
