    Default Best non -Japanese RPG

Firstly this is in the modern section as I think its more likely that the choices people make will be from fairly recently, but hey I could be wrong.

What and why, in your opinion, is the best RPG excluding ones that come from Japan?

For me its Knights of the Old Republic as for one it’s a great Star Wars game, plus I loved the combat system and the way your choices affected those around you (the scene on he beach with the Darkside option springs to mind).
I'm having a huge games clearout - aprox 500 items

    Fallout 3 for sure.

Planescape: Torment is a very close second.

    Hmmm. Can't decide.

I've yet to play Fallout 3, but I'm kind of torn between Fallout and Baldur's Gate II right now. Oh, and Planescape: Torment. If it weren't for the combat system sucking and the game only being half finished, Anachronox would be an easy shoe in. No wait, Quest For Glory I - III? Hmm.

I'll be doing Vampire: Redemption in the coming months, so I'll finally get to see what that sucker is all about, too. Lots of people put it pretty high on their list post-patches, so I'm pretty excited.

    tl;dr - No idea! :'(

I have never been able to enjoy Diablo/Neverwinter Nights/Elder Scrolls style games, so my choices are classics. Namely, Shadowrun for Genesis and Ultima VII for PC. Both were ahead of their time in terms of having an open world and non-linear advancement, and both had combat systems that I really enjoyed.

Others I dug include Heimdall and TechnoClash. For recent ones... Arx Fatalis was okay.

I gotta dig that out and play it again. The convo tree's blew me away when the game was new. Awesome pick. Always overlooked.

Like your new avi too man. Don't tell me Hunter is an unlockable character! I'll have to buy a 360 then for sure. Exploding propane tank attacks FTW!

I like Elder Scroll series. Oblivion takes the cake.

I'm gonna have to go with Morrowind because I've played it more than any other RPG.

As far as honorable mentions go...

Fallout 3 was a pretty bitchin' game to say the least, but I after beating it I'm gonna need some time before I can play it again.

Diablo II is a fun game, but it's nowhere near as intricate as a Bethesda RPG.

The only Western RPG I've played for any amount of time is Oblivion.

Thanks! Str[e]ak at SRK cooked it up for me.

Hunter S. Thompson for Street Fighter IV, with his patented ultra move, "Gonzo Flash Gibberish Uppercut"!

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest gets my vote.

Just kidding, though I do like the game.

This is easy for me as I've only played about 4 rpg's total in my life. Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic is a great Star Wars game, great rpg and one of the best Xbox games around. I loved every minute of it and nearly forgot I was playing an rpg because of how much I was enjoying it. However, Star Wars: KOTOR II gets a very close second. Although some of the plot twist weren't as memorable, I actually enjoyed the story alittle more than I did the first one.

    Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

I've put countless hours into this game, playing different character styles and exploring. For me this is the greatest non Japanese RPG ever made.
