Does it still work or XBOX 1 Games with live work on 360 live?

Yes, the vast majority of Xbox Live enabled titles for the original Xbox still work. However, most of the communities are dead, even for popular games like Project Gotham Racing 2. Besides Halo 2 and probably a couple of other popular fps's, your not likely to find anyone to play with.

Yeah Halo 2 is about all that is left for the original Xbox on Live.
"Rock the Classics"
Here's the top 10 Live-active Xbox games (as of 1/12/09) according to Marjor Nelson:
1 Halo 2
2 Star Wars: Battlfrnt 2
3 Fable
4 Counter-Strike
5 Conker: Live Reloaded
6 Doom 3
7 Star Wars: Battlefront
8 Street Fighter Anniv.
9 Splinter Cell Chaos
10 Call of Duty 3
I tried searching for a Live game of Street Fighter 3rd Strike last night but I couldn't find anything. It was really late though and I only tried for a minute.
I really should try out Battlefront before it dies down though. I've owned 1 & 2 for a while but haven't played any games online yet for some reason.
Can I play an original xbox game over xbox live on my xbox 360?

I didn't know Fable 1 was an online game. o.O
Phantasy Star Online doesn't work online anymore, and it requires you to have Live to play it offline.

I do know that you cannot start an XBOX Live account unless you have a 360 though.

That top 10 list is just users connected to Xbox Live if anyone looks at it and is confused, it doesn't mean the users are actively engaging in online multiplayer.
Finally got around to trying the Xbox version of Battlefield 2 the other night, that's a ghost town. I kind of thought people would still be playing that.
Guess I should've tried it when I got it a couple of years ago.
Does it have to be an active Live account? I still have the info on my HD but the account itself hasn't been used in a couple of years. I'll try playing the game when I get home tonight...
These two games were pretty dead for open games even when they were new. I'd assume most of the games on the list are played between friends and you're not going to have much luck getting into any sort of open/public games.
Triple. I've always thought it was only "live aware" as well. I remember talking to some of my customers when the game came out and they were telling me how much fun they had with it. But they never mentioned anything about online play.
Ditto to this too. I had that game for years and it's still shrink wrapped. The only reason I tried playing Doom 3 online is because I beat it last month and had been playing it for weeks while trying to beat it. Same thing for Darkwatch and Farcry--theres never nobody online. However, atleast for these two games you can actually play online multiplayer.....by yourself. I'm not sure why but you can. Finally, Burnout Revenge for Xbox is no longer online-active(the 360 version is) but Burnout 3 still has a dedicated group of online players(I should know because I'm one of them). And I can also find games in Star Wars: Jedi Knight Jedi Academy every now and then.

Although in my opinion, Counter-Strike was always heavily populated. You could always get a game of CS in and people actually used headsets.
