Default Time for my "Room of Doom" thread

http://www.enginevoodoo.com/images/gameroom/ (link for our few remaining 56K friends)

Apparently taken with a camera as old as most of the systems pictured! (sorry for horrid pic quality, one day I'll invest in a good camera. )

This is our living room, so I have tried to make it as tasteful as possible, since when we have guests they usually hang out in there.

I like those drawers you have Master System / Genesis games in.

Small collection, but very well presented! Kudos!

Out of curiosity, where did you get the shelf for your NES games?

Only 700 some titles. I'm worried that I may be nearing divorce levels if I keep going

The shelf unit is made by Sauder. Snagged it from a Big Lots for 25 dollars on Black Friday. I picked that one because it is extra wide and can be set up for CD sized shelving from top to bottom (perfect for NES games, etc)

Those are old cassette tape storage units. Got 'em for 4 bucks a pop on evilBay. Genesis and Master System games are almost exactly the same size as a cassette case (except for those pesky EA carts).

That's a nice layout! Many of the games are concealed or tucked away so it doesn't look too much like a gamer's room.

The handhelds sitting on the shelf is kind of scary, like they are teetering on the edge. You must not live in earthquake country!

That's a nice room, I like it! Those cassete drawers are a good idea for genny games, I've gotta try that.

Just out of curiousity, how do you decide which games to put on the display shelves?

The last time we had an earthquake (and the only one I have ever experienced), it measured 4.5, lasted a few seconds and freaked everybody out.

It was funny, however, to see my godmother's weinerdog react to it.

I switch up the shelves every now and then. Whatever strikes my fancy at the time is what gets put on display

Your room looks great. Like you, I'm married and have to keep the gameroom tasteful and compatible with non-gaming guests. I think a collection like that, presented that way does a much better job of drawing in non-gamers. A traditional "room of doom" can be a little overwhelming for the average person. Your room keeps things tasteful and understated while still showing the pride you take in the hobby.

Of course, I may be biased as my room is actually laid out fairly similar to yours. I've been meaning to post some pictures, I even have the same Ikea lamp in my corner that you have on each side of your room.

Also - only on DP could that be referred to as a "small collection"

Edit...Do you have any seating that you can pull in front of the TV? I always find it hard to play sitting at an angle to the TV.
