Several months ago, I accidentally put an Xbox disc in my PS2. Since then I've had periodic trouble with it booting a disc on start up. Recently, the problem has become worse. I'm at the point of considering buying a new PS2. Any advice?

If you put the XBox game in your PS2 and took it right out away, there shouldn't be a problem. If you had it in there for awhile, like a half hour, and you were constantly trying to get it to read, then you could have damaged the laser. Beyond, that I couldn't speculate what the problem might be.
If the problem is getting worse, then, most likely, the system will quit working at some point. So, it looks like it is either buy a new system now or later (but sooner rather than much later).
An error screen came up back then and I immediately took the Xbox disc out. For a while, everything worked fine. Over time it has become more and more frequent for it not to boot the disc at start up. So it looks like I need to look into getting a new PS2.
