Question Help rewiring a ON/OFF button in a TV

So I bought a shell of an arcade machine off of craigslist its an old nintendo VS golf that also used to be a donkey kong. Anyway the original monitor was kaput and I sold the VS golf board on ebay and I got the coin door the hold a NES and im basicly goign to make it run my NES. Now here is my problem

I bought a old junky sylvania tube (Not all tube its not that old) tv off of craigslist. Now I put the TV in my arcade cabinet and I put the plexi glass screen gaurd over the front of it but the only problem is that the remote wont transmit through the plexiglass : (. So I want to rewire the ON/OFF switch on the tv to somewhere else in the cabinet so I dont have to remove the plexiglass screen gaurd every time I want to play.

Will I have to dishcarge the CRT or should I just wear rubber gloves and be carefull and remove the chanell changing and ON/OFF circuit area? Basicly what is the best way to rewire the ON/OFF switch on the tv without electricuting myself?

Could you turn it on, then unplug it, then plug it back in? It should come back on again. With that in mind you can create an exterior switch, that sends power to the plug.

This is going to sound sarcastic and I don't mean it to, but have you considered relocating the IR receiver to somewhere else on the cabinet? That might be easier.

If you want to get into the nuts and bolts of wiring around a soft power switch, check out this page ... but don't say I didn't warn you (jump down to "Power")

I think moving the IR receiver would be easiest, just have to desolder it from the board it's on, drill a hole in the cab (or plexi) and stick it in there. Should work. Depending how everything is mounted you may just be able to drill a hole in the plexi to let the IR signal through.
