Default unique item: iCast - iMac G3 + Dreamcast

    I made it myself:

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...n/DSC07240.jpg

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...n/DSC07246.jpg

    youtube video

all is internal (one power cord), LCD monitor, s-video out.

what do you think, or is it too hard to judge a unique item?

A fun project I guess, good conversation piece, just not practical. The combo makes the previously very portable DC a lot less portable with a small screen, and it doesn't play on the go.

    Default hmmmm...

Start with the price of the LCD. Then add $100 for parts and labor...best guess. I cant see it being more valuable than a Treamcast; though it is a better LCD.

Most likely would have to happen much later.

Currently in my college location and I don't have a LCD currently to cannibalize.. That brings up a question.

What parts original from the computer did you use? Is that LCD a computer monitor or a cannibalized television?

Also.. Where's the disk input? >_>

it is a 15" LCD computer monitor.

although you could use the original in the iMac, you would need to make a iMac to VGA adapter.

They're available at Fry's for around 5-20ish.. I owned a 20 inch Mac monitor 4 years ago. Had terrible greening.

the mod is kind of simple, it's the fitting into a nice package that was hard part.

more pictures can be seen here:

    http://www.cgcc.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17935

one of the things to look at (if you want to make your own) is to choose the right iMac. Have a look at these pictures:

I chose a 'tray' loading cd iMac, this is where I placed the controller ports, the 'slot' loading CD would not have looked as good (if I mounted the controllers in the same spot:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...n/DSC07328.jpg

The system I used had a nice big access port on the bottom, you can see the slot loading one does not - this is not a big deal after you are done, but it certainly helped during the build:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...n/DSC07329.jpg

One thing I did not want, was a giant hole in the casing to load games into the DC - although I was debating on using the big handle on the back of the iMac., any-how, the system I used had a large enough opening on the side, where as the slot loading system does not:
    http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v246/Logicdustbin/

    parts you need:
    DC
    iMac
    LCD - optional, but recommended
DC VGA box - but not necessary
audio amp to drive the iMac speakers

I had to extend the controller ports, reposition the LCD monitor adjustment controls, mount the monitor power button (was able to mount it where the iMac power button was located). mount the DC power button, and mount the volume control.

I doubt I could make a step-by-step guide, but if someone were serious about building one of these, I could give pointer and or advice (hint, have a lot of time on your hands and avoid your 9 month old and 3 year old from wandering into your work area :P)
