I always considered Skyblazer a quick and dirty action romp but the enemies and levels were creative enough- certainly worth the rental back then.

Demon's Crest never seems to get enough mention for its merits.

Actually, that's Assault Suits Valken from NCS. Yes, I know it says Konami, but NCS developed it. The Japanese version was from 1992; try hunting down the ROM some time and take a look at the start screen. Oh, and there's some different logo that appears with what appears to be Pegasus next to some strange thing that reminds me of the Raizing logo, with a pinkish-highlighted "S" shape in the middle.

    Other games:

Demon's Crest...it surprises me that ALL the Gargoyle's Quest/Demon's Crest games were released in America, and it also surprises me that people don't talk about them more. What wonderful titles...as somebody I know said once, "It takes the GnG series and perfects it." You play as the Red Arremer "Firebrand," no less.

Batman Returns seems interesting, somewhat fun, and pretty well drawn.

    Star Fox 2...should've been released.

One of my favorite series EVER! I have all three...would SLAY to get box and manual for the GB one, and a manual for the NES one! Can't believe this series never did better.

    Other faves of mine:

Brainlord (no one liked it....I think cause the puzzles are so hard)
    Equinox (so fun!)
Rock N Roll Racing (my favorite racing game EVER...I kick ass at it too!)
Mega Man Soccer (quite good....and I hate sports games)
Road Runner Death Valley Rally - Am I the ONLY one that loved this game???

Bah, the box art for Gargoyle's Quest shows Mr. Firebrand as GREEN. At least the US version, anyways. I'm not sure what the US Gargoyle's Quest 2 box looks like, but the Japanese version is nice. (Yeah, I have a picture somewhere, but I want to take another). Anyways:

    (warning: 753K)
The cover art is an extended version. Nice printing, compare it with:

    (452K)

Print quality was so much better on the cartridges back when.

One of my favorite SNES gems that I never see mentioned anywhere is a game called "SOS". The storyline is allot like The Poseiden Adventure: you are a passenger on a swank cruise ship that capsizes after coming in contact with a nasty tidal wave. You have a time limit, 1 or 2 hours I think, to make it to a hole in the top of the ship (which used to be the bottom). Along the way, you meet a variety of characters which you can decide to either help or leave behind. The characters are really fleshed-out and have alot of personality. Guess this makes it easier for you to decide if you want to help them because a few are real nasty. The game has a real cinematic feel to it and to add to the tension, the ship will rock back and forth causing the games prespective to change along with it.

My only complaint is that the controlls can be a tad frustrating, but SOS is real interesting and a unique concept for a game that I haven't seen repeated anywhere else. (although I still have yet to play Disaster Report for PS2). People should give it a try.

I've seen S.O.S. listed in one of my magazines. Doesn't that stand for Sink Or Swim? I'd love to have a copy of Mr. Do! but have never come across a copy. I also love Zombies Ate My Neighbors, mentioned by someone else, which has a nice co-op mode where two people can play at the same time.

Sink Or Swim is a totally different SNES game. Never played it, but I think it's some kind of action/puzzle game. Strange that there are two different SOS's for the Super Nintendo.

This game was the bane of Nintendo's Game Play Counselors. "Ok which screen are you on?" "The one with the trees." "Excuse me while I get some punk with steel toed boots to kick me in the head."

I've been looking for this game forever! I've wanted to play it ever since it got a little blurb in an old issue of Nintendo Power.

I really used to dig Lester the Unlikely. Funny game about a nerd who gets the chicks. I rented it all of the time as a kid, now I can't seem to find a copy to save my life. I may end up ebaying for this one.

I recall that a major drawback to SOS was that the text scrolling speed was very slow (not a good thing when there's a time limit).

Didn't Zombies Ate My Neighbours have a sequel, Ghoul Patrol? I never hear much about it.

Ghoul Patrol was kind of an unofficial sequel. It wasn't made by the same company and it had a different look to it...I also don't think it was as much fun.

I liked Uniracers. One or two players does not matter fun either way.

Someone mentioned Super Smash TV--YES!! Kick ass game, great arcade translation.

A friend of mine was a big SNES nut back in the day, more for strategy-type games. He raved about a strategy game where you are an airline...I can't for the life of me remember the name. So I'm giving props to him for mentioning it. Anyone recognize it?

As for me, Super Double Dragon seems to have been forgotten...I think it's one of the better home versions, and a great beat-em-up for SNES.

Sounds like Aerobiz, from KOEI. I think there was a sequel, as well, although I'm too lazy to refer to Joe's SNES rarity list and verify.

Yes! I'm sure that's it. Thanks, Z. According to the rarity list, there's a sequel, Aerobiz 2: Supersonic. My friend sold off his SNES and complete games years ago to Funco or whatever for a fraction of what he could now.
