most games i played in the dos era were pirated, freeware, or edugames. they were unheralded, but i had fun with em.

bodyworks voyager - a ship-combat shooter based on the bodyworks education software.

hoyle's card games, vol1 - at least i learned gin rummy.

stunts - god i loved this game. there's still not a modern-day equivalent that has the sheer amount of track customization this one did. this one is still on both my xp and win98 machines.

battle chess - dad tricked me into learning chess with crushed pawns and swallowed queens

    mah jongg

star goose - overhead shooter. with a goose. in space.

in later years, i got into the quakes, the dooms, the nukems (wasn't allowed to play violent games when younger) but i did all that using win3 or later. these are teh games i actually played on dos.

    This game deserves a remake.

I grew up on quite a few DOS games, here are some of my favorites in no particular order:

Commander Keen series (3 being my favorite)
    Epic Pinball
    Duke Nukem series
Quest for Glory Series (IV being my favorite)
    Wolfenstein 3d
    Doom
    X-Wing / TIE Fighter
    Wacky Wheels
    Whiplash
    Sim City
Afterlife (still my all-time favorite sim)
    Kroz series
    Abuse
    Alien Carnage
    Jetpack
    Champions of Zulula
Executioners (it's so bad, oh so bad, but so funny)

Totally agree with Stunts. downloaded it less than a year ago to relive the past. Great game. Also typical shooters

    Wolfenstein 3d
    Doom
    Star Wars Dark Forces
Star wars Chess (I think it was like 12 3.5" floppies to install)... don't know why I liked it either to be honest.
Leisure Suit Larry (first couple of installments, amusing)

Don't let me be the first one to mention Crusader: No Remorse and Crusader: No Regret. Good god were those games awesome as sin.

oh hey, Little Big Adventure / Twinsen's Adventure was DOS! That game was magically delicious.

    All of Sierra's Quest titles
    Cannon Fodder
    X-wing
    OMF 2097
    Rise of the Triad
    Battle Chess
    Stunts
    Star Control 2
    LBA2
    Wing Commander series
    Commander Keen

The full list is really too big, as that's almost all I played at that time ... but there's a good summary.

I like the various AD&D games, including the ones just mentioned. Haven't played 'em that much though. Heck, I like lots of stuff. Quake and the Heretic / Hexen games are nice.

    Duke Nukem 3D
    3D Pinball

Those were the second and third computer games we got - back in the mid 1990s, excellent ones too. Lots of fun.

I didn't play a lot of DOS games, but the ones I always enjoyed were the Sierra adventure games and Leisure Suit Larry.

    Stunt Island was great fun.
Wherever politics tries to be redemptive, it is promising too much. Where it wishes to do the work of God, it becomes not divine, but demonic.
