Default No Video from Wii - Audio only

So my buddy brings me over his Wii, I guess because I'm the only gamer geek he knows, and says "we get sound but no picture." I plugged it into two different televisions each with two different composite connection cables and in each instance, I got only sound and no picture. I'm assuming this rules out their TV and their cable.

I've never cracked open a wii, but it sounds like it may be the AV connector has come loose from the board or something? Any electronic geniuses out there have any ideas?

Oh, and the Wii is beyond any warranty period and the family has already purchased a replacement Wii, so cracking it open is an option.

    Thanks!

Was his home TV HD? If so you will need to set it to SD. Tough to do when u can't see...

I think with the Wii it automatically resets to 480i when you plug in composite cables. Unfortunately I don't think there is a hard reset to default settings like on the PS3.

Nope, and neither is the one I plugged it into. If I plug it into an HD tv it might show some picture? maybe their kids did that by accident? I don't mess with the Wii very much so I have no idea on this stuff.

    Thanks again!

Sorry to bump such an old thread but I recently got a Wii with this problem I tested it with my component hook-ups and everything worked fine so I tried it with the composite hook-ups and the problem was as described, sound but no video. Doing some research I found the composite video circuit can go out leaving only the component circuit working.

I don’t know what happened to your friends Wii Deadman but hopefully this will help someone if it doesn’t help your friend.
