    Er... PS2?

Of your choices... Probably SNES for the broadest spectrum of titles.

of those choices, definitely, without a doubt, SNES.

out of all consoles ever? i think i would have to go for either 360 (the games are more replayable) or PSX... hell the SNES could compete with them too! (the GBA also came to mind)

Do the words "best" and "opinion" really go together?

For example, I loved both Final Fantasy XII and Dragon Quest VIII so much. But, even though Final Fantasy XII is logically a better and more detailed game (those Gambits were so much fun), I had just slightly more fun with Dragon Quest VIII.

Or you can think about Grand Theft Auto IV and Saints Row 2. Grand Theft Auto IV is, obviously, the better of the two. But, some people had more fun with Saints Row 2.

But, enough of that I guess. From the choices you gave, SNES seems to have the most good games. But for all consoles, I would guess that technically the PS2 has the most good games. Gamerankings.com shows that it has 57 games with an average of 90% or above. 360 is doing well but still has a long way to go if people want it to match PS2's numbers.

    Nintendo 64, no question.

Of those, though... um, maybe the NES, I guess... the NES, SNES, and Genesis are all amazing systems, though. But I voted for the NES.

I'll go for the Genesis. The SNES really has a biggest amount of good games, but creative and unique titles - like Toejam and Earl, Chakan or Mutant League Football - seem to be more common on the Genny.

I was a Sega guy during the Genesis vs. SNES battle, though, so maybe I'm a little biased...

I find the choices limited but the Super Nintendo gets my vote in that list.

I've owned 'em all, but prefer Genesis.

Said it several times before, I'll say it again: controllers notwithstanding, Atari 5200.

I'm going to go the opposite way, and say that SNES had a better library than Gennesis. From a technical perspective, things like SuperFX and game audio were big improvements, with more games to showcase them. While I'll agree that Genesis had the more creative subject matter (very 90s-culture), SNES counterparts often had more substance. Sonic had speed, but Mario had Yoshi, flying abilities, and more. Final Fantasy feels more polished than Phantasy Star. Most SNES games either sounded good, or really good, while Genesis games often sounded like an 8-bit/16-bit hybrid. The Sonic series sounded great, musically, but SNES's MIDI-style audio had more consistent quality among different games.

Coming into the Sega scene this late has changed my stance a little bit, but I still feel that on average, SNES games were more impressive. The Genesis library is more arcade-style, while SNES had more "progression" based games that weren't intended to be played in one sitting. In a time when games were transitioning from arcade-alternatives to a form of home entertainment, the SNES library was more relevant.

Of course, growing up, Mega Man decided my allegiance for me.

As for PS2, I'm going to have to disagree again. While there were a lot of great games on PS2, fewer of them were innovative in their execution. This was where the lines between the genres became much more distinct, and I don't think that Katamari quite makes up for the air of conformity around the system.

Finally, in reference to the topic itself, I've given my opinions based on what I value in a console library. I'm sure that you all value different things, so explaining your values and reasoning should make for a more interesting discussion than just treating it like a console war.

    Default hmmm...

I think the SNES wins as well (of the available choices, and in the US).

I might even choose the SNES over the PS1 though the PS1 has a much larger library. PS2 would probably be tops of any console IMO.

I personally think SNES is way overrated by too many people, but some of my very favorite games are on the snes. SNES has so much garbage.
My vote would go for Nintendo.

I have to say Genesis... there aren't that many games on the SNES that aren't on the Genesis as well, and arcade ports tend to be more authentic on the Genesis... SNES ports tend to have missing levels while Genesis ports tend to have missing characters... missing content sucks either way, but I'd rather have all the levels than all the characters... and of course there's blood in Mortal Kombat on the Genesis, while the SNES has sweat instead... WTF?

if the point of this poll is to help you decide which system to collect for, I suggest you go with the Genesis, because then you can play SMS games on it too, with the SMS converter... and 32X games with a 32X, and Sega CD games with a Sega CD... so if you count all the addons for it, the Genesis has way more games to choose from... but you should still get a SNES too if you can, because it still has enough exclusives to make it worth it, and quite a few of its games that are also on the Genesis are actually different games with the same name... so it's really hard to say that you should get one or the other, when you really should get both... you just have to decide which you prefer when it comes to games that are available for both systems... SNES games tend to look better, but Genesis games tend to play better... so it's really a matter of personal prefence... and which one has the most exclusives that appeal to you... in the end, it all comes down to mascots... do you prefer Mario or Sonic? Donkey Kong or Knuckles? both systems have alot to love, and both have strengths and weaknesses... the SNES can display more colors onscreen at once, but the Genesis can display more colors
