Hooking an nes up to my pc.

Hello guys, I wanted to hook up my nes, n64, etc. to my computer so I could play it on my monitor. Would any old pci tv capture card work? Or would there be lag? Thanks.

If you can find a used upscan converter such as the,XRBG or plus model then you are set.Though bewarn those upscan converters can command a high price.

I bought one of those for a couple bucks and it is amazing. I play most games through my computer now with no lag.

for me both the n64 and the nes looked like crap upscaled on a rgb2+. the n64 pretty much looks like crap nomatter what you do and the nes can only output composite so your not giveing an upscaler much to work with.

after fiddleing with the controls i did get my nes to look decent on my hdtv. maybe it would look better on a monitor since its smaller.

be ready to pay $200+ for an upscaler though. not worth it for a nes and a n64 in my opinion though.

I just bought an XRGB2. $180. I got lucky and bought one that had appeared literally an hour before, on a tip.

A good lag-free capture card will be much more worthwhile for ya, and you get the added benefit of being able to capture your video and post it to Youtube...please don't abuse this as these folks will remind you

I would like to add that I bought a DAC-200 for the purpose of doing this, and I don't think it was the right choice since http://www.virtualdub.org/ is unlikely to be compatible (see the bit on the page about Firewire and Video for Windows). It did let me transfer a VHS tape (one of its primary uses) however.

Its not the greatest but you can go wrong for such a cheap price. I payed... I think it was 3 bucks, 10 dollar shipping. Its an awesome, cheap, small-impact solution and is great for laptops without capture card expansion abilities.
