Anyone know if the Oklahoma Video Game Expo is happening this year? Last year's show was a big success and tons of fun.

I have no idea, it's up to Jesse (-^Cro§Bow^- here on DP) whether he's up to doing another show. The main problem is that the Marriott wants more money than in the past, and the show can't recoup the loss. I really hope he can find a way to pull it off and a new show really happens. I've been seriously considering getting a table of my own for the first time, sell off some odds and ends. I've just recently bought myself a Genesis/Sega CD/32X combo, and I was thinking about setting it up with Sonic CD running. Phosphor Dot Fossils had Super Mario 3 running on a Japanese Famicom at OEGE, which grabbed everyone's attention. I doubt that many people got the chance to play Sonic CD, so it might be a nice thing to have it running, along with some other interesting games I have like Keio Flying Squadron and some cheesy FMV titles.

He just posted a winking smiley on Atariage not too long ago in response to someone else asking about OVGE, so I have a feeling the official answer is basically "stay tuned." I hope so - not missing it this year, it's time to get the band back together!

Yes, I am planning on a 2009 show. But it won't be at the Marriott. Honestly, all the venues I've contacted will cost me more to do the show than ever before. So far the best looking venue will also be the smallest show I've ever done, and still cost more.

I can tell you this.. I'm thinking of a middle of October timeframe this year. Ideally, I would like to host the event this year on the 24th of Oct.

Just have to see... but it is in the works.

Have you considered having it at a venue other than a hotel? (not sure where that would be, just curious)

I'd assume he'd have it in Tulsa, since that's where he lives. And Oklahoma City already has their own show (what there is of it). I liked the Marriott, but if they're charging more and more each year, it becomes a losing proposition after a while.

There is more with the Marriott than just higher fees. The Marriott is out this year, because they changed directors again... and this one came with new rules. One of the rules is that they pretty much allow booking of the rooms for at least a year out now.

As such, the Marriott is booked from here to Christmas for the space we need. In the past they used to contact me each year to see when I might be looking to host the event again. That didn't happen this time.

So.. I have two possible venues lined up.. both really nice. But... they cost a lot. So I would have to partner with others for backing.

Just have to see... but I do still plan on a 2009 event.

I'd be more than happy to ditch OEGE to keep SteveW happy. It's obvious we'll never please him.

In all seriousness, I'm starting to get concerned with the direction some of the staff want to take OEGE. There's been some drastic changes with how everything will be handled, so we'll see where that takes us.

OVGE is an entirely different animal. I'm willing to help out however I possibly can to make it happen.

A friend and I flew down for the day from St. Louis, and we both had fun. It sux that the Atari 2600 He-man game fell out of my bag in the rental car and didnt notice it till i was on the plane.
I was hopeing for a summer show, but fall is good.

There are a few key events that I look forward to each year and this is one of them! Honestly, if OVGE doesn't happen I will be devastated, but completely understanding. I know it is a TON of work to get these things organized.

If there is ANYTHING you need help with I am willing to lend a hand anyway I can. All you need to do is ask.

OVGE 2009 is a go! Venue still be locked in...

But we have a date and regardless of where the event gets hosted, the date is:

October 24, 2009!

If I can get off my butt and find some time, I should have my contract done with a check for deposit to secure the venue this week.

Hopefully all is revealed before the end of this weekend. Do stayed tuned...
