    Default Video Game Mags

What Video Game Mags do you subscribe too and which do you feel are the best?

Currently I subscribe to Nintendo Power, Game Informer and XBOX Magazine but I am looking for some additional summer and bathroom reading.

    Thanks

    Dustin

Currently I think the only subscription I have is to Nintendo Power. My Game Informer just ran out but I'll probably end up renewing it. I had some time left on my EGM subscription when they published their last issue in January. I also just recently picked up an issue of Retro Gamer Magazine (a UK published title) at Barnes and Noble. It's very cool but not really worth the subscription price (over $100 a year).

I *think* I still get Nintendo Power, I can't remember if I let the subscription slide or not. If I get a new Gamestop card and free GI subscription I'll do that, but it ran out a few months ago and I'm not going out of my way to resubscribe. I look at GI for five minutes, flip through the reviews and previews, and then throw it out. Their reviews are terrible anyways.

I cancelled my EGM a year or two ago after not being able to stomach the "edgy" direction they were taking. I don't want my print magazine turning into a series of message board posts. I did like EGM's reviews, though, and even though I wasn't subscribing it at the time I liked that they moved to the letter grade system.
If you can't do it with 8 bits, you don't need to do it!

A few years ago I subscribed to every US mag available, but don't subscribe to any now. It was tough, but I just decided not renew Play, which was the last US mag I had any interest in. The web is where it's at, plain and simple.

Agreed, a shame that video game print magazines are all but dead however.

I will miss EGM, but I also did not like the direction it was going in the final days. The pages felt very busy and it seemed like they were trying to do too much.

I'm not sure about this, but in its prime, I believe EGM helped scare developers into making better games, due to their reviews.

I still bust out some of the 90's issues every now and then. It is fun to see the excitement surrounding the new systems coming out, like the Sega CD, 32x, and Jaguar. If only they knew.

I subscribe to Video Game Trader Magazine, pick up Video Game Collector Magazine when I see it at stores, and get Gamepro for free still.

If you can get it, Edge magazine from the UK is a good one! I don't know if there's a US equivalent.

It is a shame the mags have all gone down. I am all about online as well except for Retro gamer which I read at the stands or occassionally buy cause I can't get it online and some issues are worth having. I also get game informer free because of my EB card

I haven't purchased an issue of EDGE since 2000, but we do get it at work. It's ok, but think it receives far too much praise.

Yeah I used to get Nintendo Power. Back in the late 90s and early 2000s when I got it it was awesome. Tons of cheat codes, partial guides and all that good stuff.

I stopped getting it when I noticed that these kinds of things were not as prominent in every issue. I am one who doesn't like change much and just got disappointed with what my favorite magazine had become. I figured, I can just find out what games are coming out on the internet from now on.

After that I got Game Informer and EGM for free from buying systems at GameStop and Game Crazy, but I was never really interested in them as much as I was with the old Nintendo Power.

I'm a collector, but only to a certain extent.
Not as extreme as Rickstilwell though.[/quote]

    Default OK.

    Game Informer
    Playstation The Official Magazine
    Play
    Nintendo Power
    PC Gamer
    Xbox Magazine

If your a retrogamer you might just consider buying a lot of older magazines off of ebay. Old mags are a great way to discover games you missed...

I stopped reading Nintendo Power ten years ago when it became overrun by ads. Terrible.

    I subscribe to:

    Gamepro
    Game Informer
    Official Xbox Magazine
    Play

I like them all and I'm thinking about renewing my subscription to Playstation: The Official Magazine.

The glory days of print magazines are long gone. None for me. I don't really even like Retro Gamer.

I think the same. There is rarely anything interesting these days...

I love the old gamefront magazines though. When they were still b/w and underground. These were cool!

I prefer reading magazines over news bits on the web any day. I don't need to know the latest tidbit of news or have to see the newest leaked screenshots. In fact, depending where you go, the daily news isn't all it's cracked up to be compared to the push of the early 2000's (at least in my perspective).

Currently I subscribe to Game Informer, Play and Video Game Trader but I will soon be getting signed up for Playstation: the Official Magazine and Nintendo Power again.
