Ironically this whole business has probably done much more to publicize this hack than anyone could have done otherwise. (I don't see anyone posting about that spiffy new Breath of Fire 2 retranslation.)

Well. I couldn't join the site since it's invite only as they have too many members. It's extremely easy to find on Google though.
Anyways. If you go to Youtube there's a playthrough of it if you don't want to download it. Supposedly it's not the 98% complete version though.

This website's just sad now. They're reporting community drama as "news". The game's canned, does anyone really care if some faceless strangers on the internets think it was all a hoax?
This is going to be interesting. Square Enix threatened legal action if the game ever got out, right? Well, if the company takes action it'll be a waste because it won't really do them much good and also they might not even win. But if they don't follow through then that could send the message that a Square Enix Cease & Desist letter is just an idle threat.
So, has anyone actually played it? You will probably have to grind the literal first regular battle in the game for awhile, until Magus can handle two beasts at a time on his own. His shield spell helps and all, but at level 1...yeah. Once you can get past the first two areas, you will get a full party and the balance becomes better. It still seems like it is skirting the "hard because romhacks have to be hard for hard's sake" sort of mentality, but perhaps that's one of the things unfinished with the game. Doesn't even bother to explain why everyone is level 1 and have lost all their prism helms and whatnot but hey. I've played a few hours into it so far and it actually isn't too bad, not super fanfictiony yet. There lots of weird graphical errors and people with placeholder text and whatnot, but the version that is out is supposedly from february and isn't neccesarily the "98%" complete version, let alone a final. I did encounter a bug that made me lose a bunch of progress and I've not gotten back to it since, so make sure you save pretty much before going into any new area just in case of stuff like that.
I'm replaying Chrono Trigger, then I'll play Prophet's Guile, then Crimson Echoes. I'm going to get all the secrets and sidequests to each game or atleast all of them that I can find(which will be every one of them on Chrono Trigger, probably not all of them on the others.)

Yeah, I'm sure I'm missing lots of stuff playing this. I've encountered a couple of "make a choice" segments too that I wonder how much they actually effect things. But hey, I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and say that they probably let newgame+ be an option, so i'll try different stuff next time maybe.
Also, I have went ahead and started cheating lightly. I've given several characters 999 HP, but not infinate HP. I'm still dying pretty well, since the enemies seem to all have like 750+ HP and come in groups. I also gave Marle ** stamina stat so she could have high defense because no I am not going to play a solo low-level Marle segment legitimately.

I played the hack and gave some impressions on my website.
Really, it is not worth playing the leaked hack. There are many glitches, and the enemies are too hard. Considering the amount of grinding required to proceed through the game, you are better off watching the playthrough videos they are making on youtube.

Alright, I've hit the worst thing I've encountered so far. There's a part where it locks glenn as the main player, and only allows you to take one other person with you. I've done (i think...) all the quest that should be neccesary for that, but it still won't unlock the first or third character slot. Problem is, I appear to need Nadia/Marle in the first character slot to trigger the next event. Anyone other than me get to the part where you have to place the masamune in the dark ages? it's right after that.
I tried going back to the middle ages as it suggested, but the game froze on me when I talked to Leene. I guess I'll try that again, there's been a couple random freezes that didn't happen a second time, so maybe that's all I need to do. here's hoping.
Anyway, make savestates often, obviously.
I'm about 4 hours in and have gotten stuck, literally, a couple of times. Luckily all the Game Genie codes still work so I just popped in the walk through walls code and managed to fix myself. It also didn't take long to realize that the only way to make the game tolerable is to cheat my way through the battles.
At a few points you can feel the fanfiction nature of it all like in Dalton's maze and some lines that are probably inappropriate for the character. Would Lucca really say "Prepare to be shot"? And Magus, while dismissive in the original game, was not Vegeta actively seeking out people just to call them idiots. But I am pretty impressed overall. The few oddball moments aside, the writing is actually pretty sound and appears to bridge Chrono Trigger's tone with Chrono Cross's nicely.
Now here's hoping the 98% version gets leaked.
What makes people think that this isn't the 98% version?
I'll still be shocked if the whole thing wasn't a big hoax because the devs (a) knew they'd never be done, (b) wanted to be done with it, and (c) figured this was the best way to give it up and not lose face.
If the C&D were true, why would you *ever* take a chance showing anything, even videos? I sure as heck wouldn't.

The videos show scenes that have fewer graphical glitches than the leaked version so some work was definitely done between what we've got and what was used to make the footage.
If Square-Enix sues and nothing happens does anyone think that they'll end up finishing the project? Even if they have to pay out to Square-Enix because of this leak.
What's to say that they can't just release the full version since they've already been sued.

Based on my admittedly limited knowledge of what's been going on, I don't think Square Enix has a slam dunk case. But even if they do sue and lose that doesn't give a free pass to any and all actions these romhackers take in the future. They can't come back and say "Yo, Square, you lost the suit and now we get to do whatever we want with this romhack." Losing one case doesn't preclude another suit for a similar offense committed later on. Imagine what that would mean. I smash your car window with a rock. You sue me and lose (or even win). So now I can smash your car window again and get away with it because you already had your shot in court. That would be royally screwed up if things worked that way.
