Finally, a new DC game that is NOT a Rtype/Gradius type shooter.

Not that I have anything against it, but seeing something diferrent is actually a nice changce.

I know it's based on Doom, but it just looks TOO much like Doom. Unless they're going for that 1993 look, they really should have just modded Quake or something.

Regardless, it's nice to see a good new release on DC.

I love my DC, but it's not the best FPS platform ever. Still, good news, and I look forward to seeing it!

Yeah, that looks pretty much exactly like Doom. Doom is fun though, so it could be good... and even though I like shmups, it's nice to see a DC game that isn't one for once.

The DC really is a fantastic homebrew system, though... I mean, with most systems playing CD-Rs with no modification, and with easy development as far as consoles go, and a decent amount of power, you can't do much better...

Courtesy of GOAT Store Publishing (from, um, three months ago), there is now a new trailer for the soon-to-be-published "Hypertension: Harmony of Darkness," the horror FPS.

    From the YouTube description:
    Release Date: Late 2014
    Publisher: GOAT Store Publishing
    Developer: Isotope Studios, TDGMods
    Platform: Sega Dreamcast
    Engine: 3DGE 1.37
Players: 1-2 (Splitscreen Coop, DM, or BotMatch)

Hypertension: Harmony of Darkness is an upcoming 3D First-Person Shooter inspired by 90's ego shooters fused with modern gameplay mechanics. Utilizing TDGmods in-house 3DGE engine Hypertension will boast OpenGL rendering, 3D models and levels and an engaging story that contains scripted character interaction and cutscenes. Joined by other subsystems such as audio backends, multiplayer support, and trademark fast-and-furious horror only TDGMods can deliver - players will be propelled the player through realistic, and often sadistic, environments for the violent truth.

This is Alpha footage that does not graphically represent the final product.
Personally this type of game is not my cup of tea. I find its horror to be cheesy instead of scary, and I don't typically go for "horror" media in general.

But it is always good to see another promising release for a classic console. And even better, this is one of the few Dreamcast games where the gameplay is done completely in 3D. And even better than that, its engine is Free open source software which is already currently available, so anyone today can go and download the source code and binaries to get started on his or her own Dreamcast (or PC) game. By the way, the game engine for this project is called hyper3DGE and it was custom-crafted from another modified DOOM engine. (All of the files for the hyper3DGE engine can be found at its SourceForge page.)

If you want to follow progress on the game project, check out the blog of the engine's and game's developer, TDGMods.

And according to the description, it's "based on" (which I take to mean "inspired by") the Blood series.

    Right, I'm 99% sold now.
