Default Disassembling a Wico Command Control

I've got an old Wico Command Control joystick (for 2600, etc...), and just hooked it up for the first time in probably 20+ years.

Everything works, but the stick is incredibly loose. I'm tempted to disassemble the thing and see what's what on the inside, but don't want any surprises.

I've been repairing standard CX-40 joysticks since I was about 11 or 12 years old, and am moderately competent for things like this. I've never seen the insides of a Wico, however.

Is anybody here familiar with the Command Control sticks? Can I just go ahead and take the thing apart, or is there something funky that might screw me up?

There's a picture of the guts in the ad for it, as well as a brief description of the components. Supposedly the handles are changeable but I've never figured out how to change them on mine, I don't know if all were changeable.

I recently bought a pair off E-bay which did not function properly. When I disassembled them I was quite surprised at how complicated the insides were. It was like a three ring circus in there. However, I cleaned every little thing, no matter how bizzare it looked, and put it back together.

The cleaning made the functionality about 90% better, but I still have some problems, so I'll have to go back in sometime. One day I hope to play a 5200 without any controller issues.

This stick is a 2600 flavor, not the 5200 model. Still, good luck with yours.
