Default Are there any archives out there for Japanese Manual scans?

See title. I've been on a Super Famicom game buying streak lately, and a lot of them have been cart-only titles. However, it seems like the SF games that I've gotten complete usually have manuals that are chock-full of nifty art, short comics, and so on, which makes me wonder what I'm missing out on in regards to my naked games.

So, does any one know if there are any online repositories for scans of older (preferably 16-bit and earlier) Japanese game manuals? Something akin to http://www.replacementdocs.com/, except for Japanese games?

I wish! This is something I hope will happen soon, Japanese-centric scanning projects for manuals / boxart / magazines /guides. I have faith it'll happen someday...but the longer we wait the harder the stuff will be to find.

This is something I've been planning to add to my site at some point... maybe one day

I think I'm about to add game manuals to my site (I just did as a test for Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire, see the omake section at the bottom of the review page). ShaoMappy, adding all the manuals will probably take me some time... did you have any particular games in mind ? I can start with those as long as they're already listed on my site...

Wow. Any system, or just PC Engine? I'd be forever in your debt if I could see the Super Famicom manuals for Ushio To Tora, Battle Zeque Den, Kiki Kaikai (Pocky And Rocky), and Joe & Mac. So, uh, a million thanks if you do upload those.

I've started with the PC Engine but the Super Famicom is also on my list. I'll upload the Super Famicom manuals you mentioned before the end of the week

    Battle Zeque Ken
    Kiki Kaikai
    Joe And Mac
    Ushio To Tora

Just look at the Omake section at the bottom of each page, there're PDFs there ready for you to grab !
By the way, I've created another thread especially for this topic, I'll post my updates there form now on

I have lots (lots) of manuals scanned, I just haven't uploaded them to replacementdocs yet... because I'm still scanning!

Most of them are Japanese Mega Drive games. Some of them are nice and rare.

Could you please post the Final Fantasy V manual? Heck, all the SFC Final Fantasies would be nice (I own them all, but carts only), but finally being able to look at the FFV manual would make my whole week.

Eyedunno, I'll see if I can do something about that. I own the FF games but I've only made PDF files out of the games I've reviewed for my site - the FF games are still on my todo list

    Thank you!

Not sure if I said it, but Clock Tower would also be nice, though it seems from your list that you only (!!) have a prototype of that one. Nifty.

Maybe when replacementdocs comes back online...

About Clock Tower I sadly don't own the game. I do have a prototype by it's not the whole game but just (if I remember well) three playable areas from the game. CT is quite expensive nowadays... I wonder if I actually paid less for that prototype than I would for a boxed copy of the game on Ebay...

Indeed. I think that's the most expensive loose SFC game I've bought to date (though the most expensive overall would be Umihara Kawase, but that was complete, and even included a strategy guide). Still, it's a great game, and quite creepy (I admit it, I actually jumped the first time I opened the shower, even though the game gives ample warning ).

    Wow, awesome!

    Thanks a lot.

Was this a fold-out manual then? It certainly appears that way... I find it interesting that it has zero information about the characters and story (and not even one mention of the name "Butz" - he's called "Square" throughout). It's somewhat appropriate to this game though - half of the manual is about the job system, which definitely deserves a lot of attention...

    Edit:
I found the 2ch thread that I assume you found this on. This is awesome; it seems they're adding new stuff every few days.

Edit #2: Okay, according to Jean Valjean's FAQ, it was a fold-out manual.
