Default Atari 2600 USA sale totals from 1986 to 1990

Curt Vendel has a posted that you can download the info he has. He didn't post the hardware sales for the system from 1986 to 1990.

I used excel to add the game totals for each game from 1986 to 1990.

Some of Atari's sales for the 2600 are missing due the system got it's start in 1977. The sales total also don't show the sales for the games on clearance or games sold brand new by other store after 1990 including O'Shea.

I made a zip file for anyone to download the info.

I don't understand. Are you saying that Atari's Video Chess only sold 106 copies?

It's not Star Ship 26. It is the amount of copies Star Ship sold.

I tried to push away from the title of the game before posting this info. It didn't work for me.

Yes, from 1986 to 1990. That is the amount of copies the game sold from internal sales figures from 1986 to 1990 according to according to Atari.

Curt Vendel doesn't have any sales figures from Atari before 1986.

There are a lot of copies of the game, but most of those copies were sold before 1986 and were not recorded as a result during the Atari 2600 Tramiel era.

I took down the sales figures down from my past.

I decided to make a zip file out of the excel file I created. You can download in the attachment section.

So over the course of 4 years of retail availability from 1986-1990, Video Chess barely clears 100 copies sold?

I could have sold more copies out of the trunk of my car during that period of time, if I had been the same age I am today.

I am curious as to what the going price for Video Chess might have been during that time or who was selling it.

Yet I do remember an issue of EGM which posted a list of the worst selling games of 2005 or 2006, based on data from the NPD charts, and I believe the "winner" was Space Ace for XBox 1.

Can't remember exactly how many copies they said Space Ace sold that particular year but I do remember it being a ridiculously low number.

I'm sure somebody might have that issue, I think it was under 500 copies sold (?).

The point here is that these figures are completely worthless, except in the most literal sense. Presuming they're accurate, they only tell how many games were sold during a four year period near the end of the 2600's life.

Video Chess might have sold 5 million copies from 1979-1980. If it only sold 106 from 1986-1990, that's not surprising. But knowing it sold 106 from 86-90 all by itself is worthless data.
Selling collection, Atari through XBox. Send a PM with whatever games you're looking for.
