Nintendo doesn't want to, and stores can't lower the price without Nintendo's approval.
Its still a very popular title as well. I know when I finished playing mine I put it on Goozex and it was requested pretty quick. Seems like I saw it on one of the DS commercials that has whats her face from Friends on it too recently.
The best price I have seen it for new is $24.99 at Amazon. Spend a few more pennies, and it ships free.

What Oob said, it's worth every cent.

Actually, I snagged it at Blockbuster during their clearance last month for $10
But we might see a price drop once the sequel hits.
Why do people think that a game's price should drop just because it's been out for a while? The only reason companies drop their prices is to increase sales. So if the price is staying high, it means lots of people are still buying it.
This is a first class Nintendo first party game we're talking about. Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii) is still $49.99 and it's been out nearly 3 years. Heck, Super Mario Kart DS is still $34.99 everywhere...
I would search Craigslist for a copy. I found several sellers selling the game for $15.

Nintendo doesn't often drop their first party releases. Heck, they don't even usually drop earlier Pokemon releases after new ones come out. Be happy that there are copies showing up in stores again. Normally when their titles go OOP they disapear and you never see them again.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

Time will be when the broadest river dries
And the great cities wane and last descend
Into the dust, for all things have an end
Why is Mario Kart still $30? Why is Super Mario DS still $30? Because they are both STILL in the top 10 game sales charts, that's why. Both came out 4 and 2 years ago, respectively.
Why would Nintendo lower the price on a product that continuously makes the top 10 even when priced at $30?
Super Smash Brothers for the GameCube never dropped below $30 new. It was STILL in production during the last good year of the Cube and it was a LAUNCH TITLE. Read that again. LAUNCH TITLE. You could pick up Geist (another Nintendo release that was released far later in the Cube's life when it had a higher installed base) for $10 a few months after it appeared in stores because it wasn't a very good game and, more importantly, it didn't sell well.

nintendo has historically been fairly stingy with software price drops
it's their price points, they can set them wherever they want
