Default HELP! FM Towns Marty or Neo Geo AES???

Ok....I have some extra cash and I want to get a new system. I have a choice between a Neo Geo AES and an FM Towns Marty. I can only afford one. Now, I know what AES games cost and I know I can't afford them at all really. Go figure. But I LOVE the non-fighting games for the AES! And I know that FM Towns Marty stuff isn't all that cheap, and it's REALLY REALLY hard to get....but there are a lot of shmups for the system (assuming you can find any). Suggestions anyone?

Also...does anyone know where a GOOD English FM Towns Marty site is? I'm interested in finding out what shooters were released for it! I only know a few off the top of my head.

    Thanks!

    Umm....I know where to get a FM-Towns Marty...MAYBE...

All I can find for the system, though, are hentai games. Unless you're a fan of Viper...no, I couldn't tell you where to get the shmups, except for Raiden. Knock yourself out looking for it.

An AES would be nice; you'll never regret getting Last Blade 2.

On the other hand...what sorts of things do you have already? I'll see if I can't maybe steer you towards something better.

Hmmmmmmm.....well, I saw that Raiden too

As for AES...I HATE fighting games...I'd only be getting it for shmups and puzzlers.

And what I have already..... well...nearly everything: Duo, TG16, 3D0, NES, SNES, N64, GC, GBA, GBC, SMS, Genesis, Saturn, GG, Nomad, DC, PSX, PS2, Xbox, Jaguar, Famicom, Mega Drive, Turboexpress, Sega CD, 32X. I don't collect anything pre-NES really. I collect US RPGs, shmups, puzzlers, platformers, strategy.....basically eveything that's fun and not a sports game. There really aren't a whole lot of systems LEFT to get at this point for me. The FM Towns and the AES are the two that interest me most from the info I've seen. Assuming I can find Marty games at all..... I know there's a pile of shmups for it, but stuff like hentai and RPGs don't interest me for Japanese systems....so I'm not sure how much stuff there REALLY is to collect for it due to the vast lack of Marty resources!

Have you a Famicom Disk System? Ah, probably.

Wonderswan? You probably don't want a GP-32...What about NGPC?

For the Neo Geo, err...Puzzle Bobble 3? O_o anyways, THAT ONE puzzle game, lots of fun but the AES version is terribly expensive (I think a range of $500-$700). So you still have a pretty good selection to choose from.

Well, I'll see what I find out there and get back with you.

Hmm, I bet I know where you're looking at the Marty stuff, too. They're pretty much out of Neo Geo stuff, last time I asked.

Actually...I decided I didn't want a Famicom Disk system. had a Wonderswan...didn't like it. Have a Neo Geo Pocket Color...and a Neo Geo CD system...forgot about those Don't want a GP 32 much...I'm really a console man, not a handheld fan. PM me with what you find out!

    Any other suggestions people?

I say go with an AES. There are MANY fighters on the system...which you say you don't like. But the FEW shooters on the system are just great! If you can't afford to collect all the games for the Neo and you only like shooters/puzzle, then this is perfect for you. Pulstar and Blazing Star are just too awesome for words, and there are other puzzle games to pick up such as Magical Drop.

Actually, a list of flying shmups for the AES and/or MVS:

    Aerofighters 2
    Aerofighters 3
    Alpha Mission II
    Andro Dunos
    Blazing Star
    Captain Tomaday
    Ghost Pilots
    Prehistoric Isle 2
    Pulstar
    Viewpoint
    Zed Blade

And these are just "flying" shmups. Not to mention the "walking" shmups, like the Metal Slug series or the Shock Troopers. Maybe you should go with MVS? Best of both worlds AND cheaper games.

Yea, I would go with MVS if you want to have and play more games, unless you have a good chunk of change. The Slugs and Blazing Star and Pulstar will save you LOTS of money by going MVS. There are also a few MVS only titles for example Neo Driftout, one of my personal favoite racing games.

Although it is nice to have a homecart system and a few of your favorite games on homecart.

Well, for the MVS only carts (or maybe for some of those MVS carts that are cheaper than the AES carts) he can try to grab an MVS to AES adapter. This way, he can have the home console, and be able to score some of the non-home goodies. Years ago my girlfriend loved "Puzzle Bobble", and this adapter was not around. I paid top dollar to get the MVS cart converted to a home cart by the guy who dumped most of the Neogeo games to rom format. If I had known this adapter was going to be available I wouldn't have spent so much (close to $300 if I remember correctly). I sold the game eventually when I broke up with her...on Ebay nonetheless. I wonder who has it now...

    Hmmmmmmmm...

Well, the thing is, the Marty has some KILLER ports. Just VERY hard to find. I know there's mostly hentai for it, but the few ones that are worth playing are KILLER 32 bit arcade ports.

The AES is cool, but figure $250 for the system, and another $200 for the convertor to play MVS (they're damned spendy) and then $100+ a shot for the MVS games (or at least some of the ones I want).

Versus $100 or so for the Marty system and $50 for most of the games I want assuming I can find them at all. And I'm only gonna have about $250-350 to spend total......

    See my dilemma?

I would get MVS carts just to have the artwork (though you have to pay extra for a complete kit).

Yeah..I like MVS too....but it's just the expense in getting Neo stuff...I think I'm prolly going to stick with the CD system I have for now.

If you're a collector, get the FM Marty Towns. It's rare, so yeah.

If you're a gamer, get the NeoGeo.

Personally, the one time I managed to play a NeoGeo was easily the best 2D gaming experience ever. I recommend it.

I have all the systems you have. Plus i don't like fighting games.
That having been said, I bought a neo aes about a year ago and
    I love it.

There are just so many fun games

I don't think you would regret it.

Neo geo is worth the money to buy and has a long selection of games to chose from. What more could you ask for a great system like neo geo.

I think the basic limiting factor here is the amount of what jaydubnb would call "cHeDDa" you've got, maxlords. A good Neo Geo system will set you back $300 easy--and the good titles, even (especially!) if you're not looking just at fighters are scarse indeed.

Samurai Spirits (Shodown) RPG should be fun, but the cart's terribly expensive. Same with Puzzle Bobble.

If I wanted to get Neo Geo games, I'd get an MVS system. You've got some great titles...I hear Eightman is good, Cyber-Lip has awesome visuals, much better than the original Contra--the gameplay doesn't quite stand up, but this is the Neo Geo, and it's EARLY Neo at that (1990). Nothing else compares.

I would go with MVS carts, and then save a little to get a MVS cabinet from your closest arcade supplier (if you have the room for one, but they aren't expensive).

That game doesn't exist on cart.
