This game looks INCREDIBLE.
So essentially this is Konami's entry into the "God of War" genre. Fine. It can't be any worse than the last four 3D Castlevania games (actually, the last two weren't really that bad).
One thing though. It seems to me that Japanese entries into this genre tend to be almost unforgivably hard. While American developed "God of War" games are a lot easier. I'm going to bet this game is going to be f'ing difficult.

Well, I now know what my next 360 game will be, unless something else comes by in the meantime, which I doubt. Thanks for posting that, it was well worth the watch.
What the... Patrick Stewart for the lead voice?
Oh, maybe. Ignore me, I was watching the video on mute.
This has been in development for awhile. It wasn't called Castlevania when the video was released almost a year ago and it was just plain Lords of Shadow.
It's pretty much guaranteed, even by this trailer that the game has nothing to do with Castlevania, they just tacked on the name Castlevania as it is a popular franchise. The only thing that the games have in common is a whip, but the whip in this game is an extendable chain whip. If you don't go by the limitations of the early games and the upgradable whip and only go by story of the newer games, then the Vampire Killer is a leather whip with holy energy.
It's obvious that they could have seen a resemblance, named the character Belmont(or a descendant of a Belmont, possibly different last name or maybe no connection at all other than the name Castlevania,) and then use this as a spinoff to the CV series not fighting Dracula with a character who is trained in using a whip type weapon.
Here's the first trailer though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxeA2v2S58w
I hopes this sells well though. The Castlevania series has always been my favorite series even with IGA and his teams screwing it up left and right the last couple of releases. Not counting Dracula X Chronicles which is the remake of Rondo, it seems the Castlevania series got worse with each game starting at and following Curse of Darkness(CoD, PoR, OoE, Judgment.) Since this one is thrown to Kojima Productions and looks amazing, if it's good, I hope they drop IGA from being producer/story and leave him writing the story only, but overall, if they decide not to keep him, then I honestly don't care if IGA he loses all of the ability to create a Castlevania project. I'm sure he's still working on a game as there is that one PS360 game with Alucard in development.
Except I think this is the first Spanish-developed entry into the series and it's from the guys that brought us Scrapland and Jericho. No idea what Kojima Productions' involvement is, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were the ones responsible for cutting together the trailer and not much else.
I'd love to be surprised and for this game to be fucking awesome, but with the developer's track record, I think I'll just remain cautiously optimistic. I mean, you can't suck forever (unless you're Spark Unlimited), right?

Oklahoma DP Roll Call!
I figure that the original Castlevania was an action title that fit within the bounds of what was considered an action title at the time, which was basically a side-scrolling platformer.
This just falls within the confines of what is considered one today. God of War is a good template to base from, I think.
Looks like GoW or Ninja Gaiden to me. Not my fav. style, I was still impressed though.

The game DOES look amazing, the graphics and game play look sweet! It kinda feels like a CV game, but I am not sure yet. Hopefully there are some classic tunes!
Also, though.... I am stuck in the past :-( I was hoping for the CV that IGA announced last year that looked like a SOTN sequel. I was hoping for a 2.5D game..
It will be interesting to see how this one develops.
The first thing I thought when watching the trailer was "shameless God of War ripoff." But then again, Symphony of the Night was a shameless Super Metroid ripoff, and it's one of the best PS1 games of all time.
My attitude towards 3D Castlevania games is naturally leery. I'll take a "wait and see" approach here. I'm not getting my hopes up.
Engage.
Ehhhh I'm a little bit scared to be quite honest. What if it's actually a good game, what if it actually sells well, what if that leads to 100 million little kids thinking that this is castlevania and everything before it is boring and old, what if that mentality buries the classic 2d side scrolling formula that the series is really all about.
What if in a frenzy of hatred for the past one of these kids rises to power and burns all of the old video games?! This game alone could very well be our undoing. Pretty much just take the story from the movie the red violin and swap out western books/musical instruments for vintage games and consoles.

I think this is right thing for the series to do at this point. Even though it's a big risk to go back to doing a 3D game, that's the only way to breathe fresh air into the series. I'm curious what Iga thinks of this project, and if he's still thinking about doing his own 3D Castlevania.
It's not really a big risk to go back to a 3d game because a) IGA isn't making it which is a big plus when talking about a 3D Castlevania game, and b) it wasn't originally designed as a Castlevania title, so it doesn't matter what IGA thinks as it's technically not even Castlevania. They tacked the name on there just to garner more sales.
I'm super interested to see where this game will go. It looks crazy awesome no doubt, but i remember being really excited for a few other 3d versions castlevania's that fell short of what the castlevania name holds thou. It looks like a game that could break the line of castlevania's only really shining on 2d, I hope its the new SOTN or DoS of the castlevania's! ... but really we know so little about the game it could just be another pretty game that turns out to be a flop. but god damn did the trailer look sweet!!
